Players tested the artificial turf — a first for a Yankees-Red Sox game. While the dimensions resemble the cookie-cutter ballparks of the 1960s and '70s, there is a large expanse of foul territory, like the Oakland Coliseum, making backing up bases paramount.
"There's so much more space and so many more places for the ball to go," Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner said.
The triangular light banks leave unusual shadows. The roof, built to protect soccer fans from rain, overhangs the plate. That necessitated a ground rule that fouls pinging the roof are dead balls. Left to enforce it is the umpiring crew of Ed Hickox (plate Saturday), Carlos Torres (first), Dana DeMuth (second) and Angel Hernandez (third).

Seriously, Angel Hernandez made the trip? I thought they were trying to sell the game to the Brits, not embarrass it.

I thought they were trying to sell the game to the Brits, not embarrass it. the good thing is that Angel has third base Saturday, and the rotation is that the first base umpire Saturday will get home plate Sunday....there are fewer calls to mess up at 3rd base....but he may get a play in that big foul territory wrong...

Boone and Judge went to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace I think. Which is appropriate when we play Boston I would think

Seriously, Angel Hernandez made the trip? I thought they were trying to sell the game to the Brits, not embarrass it. MLB saw it as an opportunity to get him out of the country for a few days. They tried to sell him on going to the Dominican Republic, but sadly he read the newspaper...

Boston started the revolution against Britain. NYC generally was sympathetic to the crown by comparison.
