Wood on for the Rays sticks his tongue out when he takes certain grips....I wonder if that could be used...

that almost looks like a screwball Chirinos throws when he falls toward first, and tries to drop that pitch on the inside to the RH hitter... There isn’t ton of difference in a real good “cut fastball” of today vs. the old screwball, Utah. Today’s pitchers rely more on the grip and fiber pressure to get the ball to move vs. the extremely difficult to throw and hard on the arm old screwball. There is little to no snap of the wrist like we saw in the old days...No more hands that wind up with the palms pointing outward when hanging naturally. Dang. 100 today again. Tomorrow will be 106...

Tomorrow will be 106... yeah...Cone was calling it a 2-seamer, and it moved like that, but it looked like Chirinos was reverse-cutting it as he fell towards first...it was a very effective pitch for him....Valenzuela had a great screwball, didn't he...also Mike Cuellar....Lopat threw one too, but his was not as good, and mostly to move opposite his curve....I've wondered why it was the lefties who used it....oh yes, and OF COURSE...Hubbell....

Don't forget Christy Mathewson. Except it was called a fadeaway in his day. Then there was Tug McGraw, who also had a good one. My old friend who saw them all from Kid Nichols and Cy Young to Tom Seaver and Jim Palmer thought Hubbell was the best he ever saw. Probably not objectively true, but it gives an impression of how dominant he could be.

Great game! Sorry for the confusion on threads! Busy day at the office and didn't have any time to check the boards!

It was mostly a typical NOTOTAU thing, really... I loved his “Where is everybody else”? plea. He had Utah sucked in for a bit, too...
