One inning too long with Holder. They saw the Orioles opener go about 5 innings yesterday and thought they could do the same. You have to wonder if this opener stuff can be successful in the playoffs though as if you are opposed by a solid starter could be quit the disadvantage. Though I guess its less likely to be needed as the opener stuff is mostly created in place of a 5th starter an ace doesn't follow. But we all know Holder is a short inning reliever. Holder did his job, going two scoreless, but he gets two runs tacked to his ERA because Boone pushed him too far. |

But the Yankee bullpen is so over-used that I think Boone's options are more limited than what would be optimal and he tries to squeeze extra outs from these guys. I have to look it up, but I don't think any Yankee starter is averaging more than six innings. Tanaka was a shade over it, but he has dropped off recently. |
