I just checked. The Yankees Pythagorean expectation for the season is six games behind their actual. I believe the Tays are ahead of their projection (sorry, didn’t feel like double-checking)...Imagine how tight this race COULD be...

I don't think Pythagoras ever played baseball ...or knew much about it They played a transcendental / metaphysical version of it in Croton, in which “Pathy” as he was known then insisted upon catching so he could enjoy the full arrangement of angles from behind the plate. It’s now credited with being the root of Strat-O-Matic as well as Bill James work that came afterward. Actually, I believe that James was the creator of the Pathagorean expectation model.
