MLB Rumors reports that Former Pitcher Pat Zachary has passed away. Zachary was part of the Met's return in the Tom Seaver trade. Another player from my ball card collecting era passes away. RIP. Pat Zachry is one of the handful of players who are remembered mainly for being part of a trade involving a Hall of Famer. Milt Pappas is another. Ernie Broglio too. But like Pappas he had a nice career. He shared ROY honors with Butch Metzger in 1976, pitched in World Series games for both the Reds and Dodgers. Johnny Bench wrote a nice tribute to him, as he often seems to take the lead in doing for his ex-mates. RIP Pat Zachry.

In 1981 he went 7-14 and led the NL in losses in that shortened season. There something so symmetrical in those mirror image seasons and it seems he was properly rewarded for his 102+ ERA with his 69-67 career mark…

He was one gruff tough sonofagun, like his contemporary across town Thurman Munson. Starting catcher for two Mets WS teams. Lou Brock said he was the hardest catcher for him steal on. RIP Jerry Grote.

RIP Jerry Grote. Was he a basketball player too or am I thinking of someone else? Chi, you're probably thinking of former major league SS Dick Groat. He was a great basketball player at Duke and later an All Star for the Pirates and Cardinals. He passed away a year or so ago.

AGAIN? Because of Groat…
