Andrew Cashner is also available. That almost was like typing in Sidney Ponson... sheesh...
So... Valdez Salazar Cashner
Those are the best options without trading talent. Why not grab two of them on MiLB deals with opt outs in Mid May or June If they aren’t in the majors by then? Just a blow-out patch...

Hey it’s too bad but we won 100 games without him last year. It isn’t as if this ends our season. I wonder about how both he and the team have managed his health that they’re just realizing this now. Seems like a failure all around, on the team and the player. Sounds like a MRI with contrast would have discovered this injury, they could have discovered it 4 months ago. This is just rinse, wash, repeat...Happens all the time in YankeeLand...

If I used the “F” word right now, would I be forgiven? Surely I would, but really, there is no need to do that. This is a part of the grand old game of baseball. It’s a part of what made this team fun to watch last season as we saw the team overcome the odds. Whee !!! What bunch of F%#$ fun... Since this is where we are now, what free agent would you guys take a chance on? Personally, I pick up Danny Salazar. He was well enough at the end of last season to pitch in I think 9 MiLB games and to pitch 4 innings in Cleveland. He’s probably not going be throwing 98 MPH anymore, but I think he’s worth a flyer... Valdez? No thanks. Healthy, but he’s 5:00 ERA guy in the NL. No one else is ringing the bell for me... I wouldn’t pick up any of them. We have depth in the system, use that.

Loaisiga, King, Garcia & Schmidt. One of these guys should be able to step and be the 5th starter until Paxton gets back. Maybe the Yanks go back to using he dreaded opener again?

I think King would be the furthest ahead among that group, but Loasiga may be the most logical because of contract status. Schmidt and Garcia could really use at least another 1/2 season in AAA. The opener is indeed an option, but I’d rather have these young pitchers in a position where they can learn to go 5-6 innings and have Green available for middle inning shut down work, even late games trailing by one or two runs...Give those bats a chance to rally...

Cessa is still an option for long relief and spot starts, right?

Cessa is still an option for long relief and spot starts, right? I think he would have to have a terrible spring to not lock up a bullpen spot. He's out of options too, which will help his cause.

That’s my take as well. I think Cessa will get stretched out during ST. I just do not want to see the one-inning starter thing again. Our bullpen was gassed by the playoffs and none of our starters were conditioned to battle in the middle innings.

There’s something that tells me he could be one of those guys that gets a wild hair one season and have one big year out of the blue before returning to what he is...Call it Steve Stone Light, maybe...

Jordan Montgomery will step up in the first half and be in the all star game conversation at the break.

Jordan Montgomery will step up in the first half and be in the all star game conversation at the break. I’m all for it. There are plenty of weapons on this team to overcome a few players parked to the sidelines. This is shaping up a bit like last season, where a horde of injured players head back to the team to provide reinforcements. Just keep the team in contention in the first half, and enjoy the strength of the reinforced roster down the stretch..,
