DJ is getting closer, maybe. I had such high hopes for him before that injury… now… I just don’t know what to think. I want him to do well…

DJ is getting closer, maybe. to be honest, at this point, not sure about how much of an offensive upgrade DJ will be over cabrera. ocab's number so far are about the same as DJ's 2nd half numbers from last season. maybe they go w a platoon at 3B w DJ spelling both rizzo and gleyber. overall it will strengthen a very weak bench. we shall see ...

dj's setback certainly not a good thing. obviously rooting for gleyber to get it going, with his struggles, an option could have been dj at 3B and moving cabrera to 2B or just putting dj at 2B. now how much longer will dj be out?

CBS Sports: Aaron Boone said yesterday that Gerrit Cole could begin throwing off a mound as soon as next week. Cole has recently ramped up his flat-ground throwing to 120 feet. While his return certainly isn’t imminent, once Cole actually starts throwing off a mound, and then off a mound to hitters, we can start to feel a little more excitement. Cole was placed on the 60-day IL at the start of the regular season and cannot rejoin the active roster until the end of May, at the earliest.

YANKEES LATEST INJURY NEWS FROM MLB. COM 4/24/24
• All Yankees transactions
10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST
3B Jon Berti (left adductor injury) Expected return: May Berti was placed on the injured list on April 13 after he sustained an adductor injury running to first base against the Marlins on April 10. Berti has been taking ground balls during the club’s homestand at Yankee Stadium. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Berti could begin a rehab assignment by the weekend of April 26-28. (Last updated: April 24)
RHP Nick Burdi (right hip inflammation) Expected return: May Burdi had an injection on the hip on April 22 but has continued to throw from his knees. According to manager Aaron Boone, Burdi should be playing catch and throwing off a mound the following weekend. Burdi felt the discomfort near the end of his April 16 appearance at Toronto, but Boone characterized the issue as “fairly minor.” Boone said that because of Burdi's lengthy injury history, club medical personnel were wary of the hurler compensating in his delivery, leading to an arm issue. (Last updated: April 24)
INF DJ LeMahieu (non-displaced fracture of right foot) Expected return: TBD LeMahieu exited a Minor League game with Double-A Somerset after one inning on April 23, with the club announcing that LeMahieu will return to New York for examination on April 24 due to soreness in his right foot.
The Yankees had hoped LeMahieu would play in four Minor League rehab games before potentially being activated on April 28, but those plans will now change. LeMahieu has been attempting to recover from a non-displaced fracture of his right foot, sustained on a March 16 foul ball. (Last updated: April 23)
RHP Tommy Kahnle (right shoulder inflammation) Expected return: Possibly May Kahnle tossed from a bullpen mound again on April 19 in Tampa, Fla., according to manager Aaron Boone, who said that Kahnle needs one more such session before facing hitters in a live situation. Boone said that he has exchanged text messages with Kahnle, who is said to be “pretty excited about where he’s at now physically. He feels like it’s getting to where it needs to be.”
Kahnle was slow-played during the spring after right shoulder inflammation ended his 2023 season and delayed his winter throwing program until Dec. 12. Though Kahnle was aiming to rejoin the Yankees when eligible on April 9, he experienced soreness after a throwing session on or around April 1, prompting the club to delay him further. (Last updated: April 21)
INF Oswald Peraza (right sub-scapular strain) Expected return: Possibly May Peraza is “deep into his throwing program” and has been hitting at the Yankees’ complex in Tampa, Fla., manager Aaron Boone said on April 21, but he is still a couple of weeks away from playing in Minor League games. Peraza began throwing regularly during the first week of April following his injury issues, which began as tightness in his shoulder on Feb. 25. Peraza briefly returned to Spring Training action in early March, but the issue persisted when he threw across the diamond. (Last updated: April 21)
60-DAY IL
RHP Gerrit Cole (right elbow discomfort) Expected return: Possibly June 1 Cole increased his throwing to 120 feet on April 23 at Yankee Stadium and said that he felt “good.” It has been a slow but steady progression for Cole, who resumed a throwing program on April 8 by making 25 throws at 60 feet, then followed that with several more successful flat-ground sessions. Cole could resume throwing from the slope of a mound by early May.
“As long as we execute it and we’re good to go the next day, then we just take it one day at a time,” Cole said on April 23. “It’s moving along.”
Cole underwent an MRI on March 11 after relaying difficulty bouncing back between his spring outings, likening his level of fatigue to what he usually would feel after throwing 100 pitches during the regular season. Cole had more testing performed on March 12, then visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on March 14. ElAttrache confirmed that there was no damage to Cole’s ulnar collateral ligament.

I’d be thrilled if I could increase my maximum throw to 130 feet. I used to be able to throw over 300 feet. Never needed to relay to home plate from CF. Old age and torn rotator cuffs… detached biceps… bye-bye throwing…

From MLB Rumors
Jon Berti To Begin Rehab Assignment By Nick Deeds | April 28, 2024 at 8:24am CDT
Yankees third baseman Jon Berti is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset today, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. The utilityman, who the club acquired from the Marlins in a 3-team trade just before Opening Day, has been shelved for 2 weeks due to a left groin strain. Prior to the injury, Berti had been operating as part of a platoon at 3rd base with Oswaldo Cabrera, though the 34-year-old veteran was just 4-for-19, when he was placed on the IL. Cabrera has taken over regular duties at 3rd base in the absence of both Berti and DJ LeMahieu, posting a respectable .258/.294/.404 in 95 trips to the plate.

Latest On Tommy Kahnle By Mark Polishuk | April 28, 2024 at 5:55pm CDT/ MLB Rumors
Tommy Kahnle has yet to pitch this season due to shoulder inflammation, as one setback already delayed the Yankees’ initial plan to activate him from the 15-day IL when 1st eligible. However, Manager Aaron Boone told MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch and other reporters that Kahnle threw a simulated inning of live batting practice yesterday, and is planning to throw off the mound again in a few days’ time. Kahnle had posted a 2.66 ERA in 40 2/3 relief innings for New York last season, in between a season-opening 60-day IL stint due to biceps tendinitis and then more shoulder inflammation that prematurely ended his season in September, 2023.
