LATEST NEWS
Aug. 8: SS Anthony Volpe exits Thursday's game in the 8th inning with left foot contusion
Volpe fouled a ball off his left foot in the 2nd inning against Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson and left the game in the top of the 8th inning, when he was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera. Manager Aaron Boone said X-rays were negative on Volpe’s foot, but he was not sure if Volpe will be in the lineup Friday against the Rangers. “We are treating it as a contusion, so hopefully everything will be OK,” Boone said.
Aug. 7: RHP Marcus Stroman's next start pushed back
Stroman has allowed 24 earned runs in 31 2/3 innings over his past 7 starts, prompting Manager Aaron Boone to push Stroman's next start back from Thursday against the Angels to Sunday against the Rangers. Left-hander Nestor Cortes will make the start on Thursday vs. the Halos. Boone said that Stroman is not injured and is simply trying to fix some mechanical issues. Boone also said he is not concerned about Stroman’s drop in velocity during those 7 starts.
“He had a really good bullpen [session on Tuesday] and [we want him] to repeat it [on Thursday],” Boone said. “He is in a pretty good place right now as far as some of the things he has been working through. ... Physically, he feels good.”
Aug 7: RHP Will Warren optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
Warren was recalled as the club's 27th man to start the 2nd game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Angels. He allowed 4r runs in 5 1/3 innings with a no-decision and left a good impression on Yankees Manager Aaron Boone.
“He was a little wound-up early, but pitching against that lineup in Philly felt like a big game,” Boone said. “He walks in with a lot of confidence, stuff to back it up. Even after getting punched in the mouth [after allowing an early 3-run HR], man, he clamped down and got even better and finished the night strong and set himself up for a win. He has been throwing the ball well for a month or 2.”
