DJ to the IL with a right hip impingement. Berti up in his place.

Is this one of those phantom injuries?

Is this one of those phantom injuries? I think even among the fraternity of slippery GMs Cashman is considered the Gold Standard for dubious IL placements. Maybe in this case it's legitimate, although it seems very convenient. But I'm not complaining.

He's a proud, team player who knows he's hurting the team.

Legit or not, it was time for DJ to sit one way or another. The value add just isn't there.

Is this one of those phantom injuries? I think even among the fraternity of slippery GMs Cashman is considered the Gold Standard for dubious IL placements. Maybe in this case it's legitimate, although it seems very convenient. But I'm not complaining. At this stage of the baseball season, just about every MLB player, especially those over 30, has some sort of injury. Boone said he's been getting treatment for the hip for weeks and it kind of makes sense. Even though DJ's eye and timing at the plate seemed to be coming back, the power was not and he was only slightly faster than Stanton on the bases. I'm sure management went to him and explained that, although he could probably play through it, the Yanks could really use a roster option to get Judge and Soto some rest without taking a bat entirely out of the lineup.

Always can count on Boone for the certainty of a noncommittal.
