ESPN's Karl Ravech reports that MLB has sent a new proposal to players which includes 75-percent prorated salary as part of a 76-game season.
The regular season would end on September 27 and the postseason would conclude at the end of October. There would be playoff pool money and draft pick compensation wouldn't be attached to free agency this offseason. Ravech hears from sources that this new proposal would work out to more than $200 million more in player salaries. It sounds good on the surface, but the guaranteed percentage breakdown ultimately isn't much different from previous offers. Players could be faced with playing 48 games with full prorated pay or 76 games essentially being paid as if they played 57 games. There's more work to be done here to make baseball possible in 2020. For what it's worth, Bob Nightengale of USA Today hears from the MLBPA that this latest offer is considered a "step backwards." They have held firm on getting full prorated salary. Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports that MLB's proposal to the MLBPA includes a revision to the Operations Manual which would require players to sign an "acknowledgment of risk" waiver before playing.
Much like the newest offer from MLB regarding pay, this doesn't appear to be well-received by the players. In fact, Castillo hears that the players believe the goal of the "acknowledgement of risk" waiver is to undermine their ability to challenge MLB for possible unsafe working conditions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The health side has always been a serious part of talks, but the assumption was that it would be easier to find common ground there than the subject of player salary. At this point, maybe nothing is going to come easy here. Source: Jorge Castillo on Twitter

According to Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic, the MLBPA will reject MLB's latest return-to-play proposal.
The plan proposed by the league on Monday morning called for a 76-game regular season in which the players would get 75 percent of their prorated salaries. The union, meanwhile, continues to demand 100 percent prorated salary shares. Another (new) sticking point is that MLB wants all players to sign an “acknowledgment of risk” waiver that would absolve the league of responsibility should a player have complications related to COVID-19. The situation could change quickly, but for now it feels like the two parties have made very little progress toward a return-to-play agreement. One might even argue that they're moving backward. But details and timelines keep shifting. Here's the latest on where we stand in the race for a vaccine: When will a Covid-19 vaccine be available to the public?
No one's sure yet, but the target is sometime in early 2021.
Vaccines in development around the world are in various stages of testing. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said he's confident one of the vaccine candidates will be proven safe and effective by the first quarter of 2021.But it's not clear which candidate shows the greatest promise yet. In the meantime, the US government is helping companies such as Moderna ramp up development of their candidate vaccines so that if they're proven to work safely, they can be rolled out quickly. "By the beginning of 2021, we hope to have a couple of hundred million doses," Fauci said. Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, gave a similar forecast: "If all goes well, maybe as many as 100 million doses by early 2021" would be possible, Collins said. But many doctors say getting an effective vaccine out by January is a highly ambitious goal.
"Everything will have to go incredibly perfectly if that's going to happen," said Dr. Larry Corey, an expert in virology, immunology and vaccine development. READ MORE…

Son of a gun. The New York Post just published an article stating that hydroxychloroquine has been selected as the best COVID-19 medication in a poll of doctors... 😂

The MLBPA has countered MLB's recent proposal for the 2020 season, asking for an 89-game campaign and full prorated salaries.
MLB's last offer was for 76 games at 75-percent prorated pay. The MLBPA had previously proposed a 114-game season, so the two sides are now a lot closer in terms of games played. Of course, the salary gulf isn't getting broached here, and the proposal is expected to be rejected by MLB. Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter

Son of a gun. The New York Post just published an article stating that hydroxychloroquine has been selected as the best COVID-19 medication in a poll of doctors... 😂 Not quite...and your post is misleading. First, this was over two months ago, not “just published.” Secondly, it was not “selected as the best medication,” like some scientific longitudinal study of comparative treatments. Thirdly, it was an international poll that asked random physicians (at that time - even more than two months ago) in multiple countries, what had been the “most effective therapy“ to combat the illness, to which only 37% said hydroxychloroquine, while comparatively 32% said “nothing” had been effective, which included hydroxychloroquine as a possible answer. Lastly, the article also stated “To date, there is no evidence” that any medicine can prevent or cure the disease.” Did you actually read the article?
