50th anniversary of one of the coolest photos in music history: I own that fine album...Cash was the only country singer I would listen too back then...He was the first country rock star as far as I'm concerned. The only piece he ever did that I didn't care for was the awful "The Father Of A Boy Named Sue". I was rather horrified at the theme of the story...

Seeing this topic active this morning has me playing some nostalgic tunes this morning. I landed on Neil Diamond.
Sweet Caroline (hate the Red Sox adopted this) Brooklyn Roads (great story song about his youth) Shiloh (imaginary friend in childhood) Suzanne (Leonard Cohen song re-interpreted) Solitary Man (from my Jr. yr. in high school) Play Me (Beautiful tune).
And still playing....
A very long career for the boy from Brooklyn with ADHD. Much varied music, many hits but never a # 1.
Strange, but I had an album that had Brooklyn Roads on it when I was a boy, but didn’t like the song at the time. Maybe it’s a song you have be older to appreciate. I had the same experience with Rod Stewart’s “Country Comforts”. Was on the album “Every Picture Tells a Story” but was just filler for me, now I really enjoy it.

Happy anniversary to one of the greatest double LP's ever made. For me his album has never gotten stale.

Remember when Neil Diamond was in the remake of "The Jazz Singer"? He's a much better singer than actor.

Even Cash didn’t pull that off. The father uses the son for his own sexual satisfaction...Blech!!!

What Diamond does (or did, since he now has Parkinson’s) was considered to be “rock” in the sixties, whereas it’s considered folk music today...

Some music translates easier when you learn it after it happened and some not as much. Leonard Cohen is another one that people adore and I never got it. But Dylan and Joni I immediately took to. Not sure why.

I found it by accident on the internet and thought, “Oh, cool, this should be interesting”. Oh, it was interesting, all right. But I’ll never listen to it again. I don’t know where Cash’s mind was at the time, but he must have been in a bad place. I understand what happens when an artist’s mind is in a bad place. I was known to be the best writer in my senior class in gmhigh school and was asked to write the prelude to our year book. I was in a dark mood at the time. I started out well, and the used the first few lines I wrote, but I began to write about life rather frankly and honestly. I told of a future of prosperity for some and a life of crime and disappointment for others, of sadness and life becoming a blood-thirsty monster. It was powerful, but inappropriate for the occasion. Oddly, a chick that I really dug was wanting me to write it. She at least liked my writing from having read some of my stuff. Apparently never dug the package my brain was wrapped in. (Turned our to prefer girls, so that helps me get over it to a degree. That and 49 years passing)... I regret that, but at the time that was where I was in life...

Not sure why. And I, on the other hand... only like some of Dylan’s catalog. It may be because I haven’t dug in deeply. Joni? Yes, she’s cool, though nowhere near my top tier of performers... There has to be a lot of talent for a performer to last through 50 years or so, but tastes will certainly vary...

The music almost played all day today. We went out for dinner and I watched a few episodes of “American Pickers” and then went back to finding tunes and playing them, right up to a few minutes ago...
Chris Cornell joined Cat Stevens on “Wild World”. It surprised me ttat he did the traditional vocal.
Eddie Vedder with R.E.M. on “Man In The Moon” was a bit different.
Lots of oldies today. Gave Isaac Hayes rendition of “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” a try, but I had to cut him off...18 minutes total on the You Tube version, and he sets the song up for over 8:30 before he starts singing a ponderously slow version, albeit the instrumentals were powerful enough that he almost kept me with him. He lost me with three minutes to go, but I also skipped over the vast majority of his verbal set up of the song. Geez, Isaac. What the Hell were you THINKING?...

Not to be too picky, inger, but Country Comforts is not on Every Picture Tells a Story. It's on a previous album, Gasoline Alley, I believe. It's an Elton John cover in the unlikely event you didn't know.
