If Pittsburgh doesn't make up their mind soon, they may wind up playing their cards out and wind up stuck with him until mid season...With as long as this is taking, it seems the ask must be awfully high...

The Yankees have the prospects to deal up and beat any offer the Astros are proposing, but why should they? I don't think Cole is worth all this.

They have 5 viable starters and a few guys on the cusp in case anyone goes down. If they are competitive and find themselves in a bind come deadline time make a short term move. We dont need to overpay for a guy who had a 4.26 ERA in the weak NL Central last year (including a 5.50 ERA in September).

I'd still like to acquire a pitcher. Cole would be okay to me. So would a few others. I just don't want to see the farm raped for him. I guess we can't blame Pittsburgh for wanting to find the highest bidder, but we can only blame "ourselves" if "we" give up too much...A-Man...

Wait til the deadline and if we need a starter, go do something similar as we did last season for Gray

He's just not worth what the Bucs want. I think Frazier and Adams or Sheffield is even too high.

Cole is now an ASTRO!!! Via MLBTradeRumors "The Astros have acquired right-hander Gerrit Cole from the Pirates for righties Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz, third baseman Colin Moran and outfielder Jason Martin, according to announcements from both teams."
It's funny, when Nova and Burnett went to the Pirates and dominated it was the Pirates coaching that turned them around. Now, (probably the exact same people) are saying that Cole will turn it around with better coaching from the Astros...

The Astros gave up a lot in terms of quantity but not much elite talent. Eh, I'm glad we didn't trade for him at least.

I still wouldn’t mind one more pitcher right now it’s what ?
Severino Gray Tanaka CC Montgomery/Green?
That’s a solid top 3 and hopefully cc can keep it going whoever of Montgomery green they put at 5 should be serviceable enough pending CC is about the same but one more starter wouldn’t hurt but the rotation is pretty solid enough either way.

We are hearing stuff like Cash is still after Darvish. He wouldn't offer much beyond Frazier it turns out- at least that's what is out there. I wonder if there's a Yu in our future?

It is a good day for Tequila & I in the Do Me Household.
We didn't trade any of our Top Prospects for Cole. Looking at the Houston Deal, they gave up very little (no top Prospects), for Cole.
However, our Farm System is LOADED with Top Prospects, so therefor other teams are demanding some of our best for potential deals.
WE are super HAPPY, that Cash stood his ground...
If any of you think we need additional SP...than look no further than Chance, Sheffield Abreu, etc. etc. etc. = OUR PROSPECTS!!!
"Tequila, where are you?"
"I am here Drunk Master..."
"Tequila, FORM A BOX...hold, hold, hold the box to protect OUR PROSPECTS; for they are OUR future."
"Master, How does a single Parrot form a box...have another drink? No, no, no, NOT Mushrooms, I said drink..."

So, that's settled. No Cole. Moving on...I'm not at all devastated by this. Still would like another pitcher, though I feel that we may be all right without one...

I just would feel alot better with one more. CC was solid last year, but he averaged 5.48 innings a start which is fairly low for someone who used to give a lot of innings. Montgomery was even lower than that with 5.34. I know both of them were above average most of the time, but the bullpen was spent by the ALCS and it showed. Biggest reason Yankees lost the ALCS (other than bonehead base running mistakes and that terrible call to Cashman's Guy) was Houston's starters gave them length when it mattered and the Yankee starters didn't. Thats hard to do when 2/5 of your rotation only can pitch 5 innings. I liked most of what I saw from the rotation but the lack of length in starts is what killed the yankees in those games they lost. Tanaka did good in the first game. However the other losses no starter finished more than 5 innings while Houston had Verlander pitching a complete game and 7 innings, Keuchel going 7, and then in Game 7 two starters combining for a complete game.
