7.1 innings of one run relief for the Yankees bullpen tonight. 8 K’s just 3 BB, and 5 hits. Nice job, though it seemed the guys each through 100 pitches, they really didn’t. Ugly win? Sort of. Important to get some of those along the way...

That’s not a definition but rather a reference to sometime usage. All acronyms are abbreviations, but not all abbreviations are acronyms, which is the distinction that creates the definition, i.e., abbreviations are merely a series of letters while acronyms form new words. Gee Whiz What a POS you are. You are exactly the type of pompous SOB that I detest. I don't need this sort of BS. Stick those acronyms or abbreviations where the sun don't shine. I am out of here. So sweet of you. Glad to have had you back for a short time, Joe. Vaya con Dios. I knew it was you. [img src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/YNYHoCFKqruGiGxicSWF.gif" class="smile" alt=" "]

Happy birthday to former Yankees first baseman and forgotten AL Home Run champ, Nick Etten. In 1944, the lefty hitting Etten lead the AL with a disturbingly low total of 22 HR. He was 30 years old at the time, afforded more playing time because of WW2, Etten also lead the AL in bases on balls that year with 97. In 1945 he followed up his HR title by leading the AL with 111 RBIs... Sorry I haven't been around for the games, but it is fun to get up in the morning and read 24 pages of baseball play by play. I've heard of Nick Etten. His name pops up occasionally in a on line baseball game I play. I believe the seasons he won the home run title(44) the RBI title (45) he walked more than 90 times and struck out less the 30 times. Sure was a different game back then. He didn't play too long after 45 when age caught up to him and too many good pitchers came back from the war.

Can’t believe he was a complete unknown to to you guys. It’s no like I’m going to fly a flag for him, but his winning that HR crown with just 22 was a eye magnet for me when I was a kid...
You know me and odd stats, right?...

Here’s an anecdote I copied and pasted from Etten’s obituary from the Chicago Tribune back in 1990 that will remind us of an incident that occurred with the Yankees a decade or so ago...
********************
The Yankees acquired him in 1943, and he played first base for them in the World Series. He hit 22 home runs the next year, enough to lead the league.
White Sox fans, at the time, were not very happy with him because he had supposedly upset a rookie pitcher into making a balk. They said he had yelled, ''time, time,'' imitating the umpire`s voice in doing so. Mr. Etten claimed he said, ''Hey, hey.''

Boone had a well rested squad able to endure a 12 inning game. Chess, I tell you. The Queen of the game turned out to be Sanchez. It’s dangerous to move the queen as often as he did, but somehow it worked. Because the Queen so mobile, I felt the King was under attack too often... almost the entire game. Lucky he had his mask on...
