Not crazy over most of the changes. Not at all. I suppose some of that has to do with my age. I have a lot of years “invested” in the game. I don’t think any of the changes will make me stop watching the game. I hate that analytics have turned it into a slugfest... At least I don’t play it anymore.

One rule I have never understood is recording an out for reaching base on an error. Why should the batter be penalized for the other team’s misplay?

Think about the affect that used to have in the era of the 1800’s to early 1900’s when gloves were either non-existent to minimalist, and almost every batter put the ball into play. Then, at to that most of the infielders would make 30-50 errors, some even erring on nearly 100 balls per year (see long-time SS Herman Long). That said, I’m not sure which years the scoring called them outs and which years they didn’t. We think the rules are being pushed around now, but during that extended era, it was 9 balls for a walk, reduced to four. Best of nine game World Series, spot balls yes, spit balls no, make your own bat, ball, and glove. Don’t track CS, don’t count strikeouts, or walks...Change is a part of tradition, too...

Why should a hitter be rewarding on what should have been an out? I agree more with this train of thought. Of course it can’t be rewarded as a hit. This goes way back to the early days of baseball. Three choices. Score reaching on an error as a hit. Score it as an out. Or... score it the same as you would a sacrifice. No at bat, no penalty. No reward. I suppose there could be a new stat, ROE (reached on error).

Why should a hitter be rewarding on what should have been an out? Mostly, because the batter put the ball in play and forced the defense to record the out. There should be some offensive statistical benefit and/or difference over striking out and grabbing a Gatorade.

Tang was huge when I was a kid because supposedly “the astronauts drank it”! I loved that stuff. I also loved sweet tea back then. Sometimes I’d drink the two concoctions half and half. I came so damned close to inventing the Arnold Palmer drink as a child! Since I no longer drink Tang, and now prefer my iced tea without sugar... I dunno. Maybe I didn’t like either one as much as I liked astronauts...

Weren’t we just discussing whether this could happen if the Yankees didn’t get it done?
