Yanks shouldn't win this game and don't deserve to. Weak ground balls and strikeouts is about all they're good for--except for the occasional solo homerun. They've had multiple games this year where they could have scored a bunch of runs, but they can't hit with runners on. At. All. We have not stressed batting for average in longer than I can remember. When you don't care if someone can bat for average as long as they can hit home runs and walk that is what happens. Personally, given that I haed that type of baseball, I am hoping we change our philosophy when Cashman leaves. We can afford a few guys with decent batting average given our resources. This is why DJ is so important to this team he has been that average guy the last 2 years and hopefully he is finding it again.

I can't afford to watch it on tv. I work for the state. Try this link:
I could never watch a link like that. I took an oath of non-office when I was hired…

Relief pitching isn't the problem. It's their inconsistent offense and lousy defense that keeps giving out free base runners. It's been a problem most of the season. Giving up that many hits is a problem in an inning regardless. I did not say it was the problem for the year. Our lack of appreciation of the value of batting average and defense has been a problem for a while. This is not new. I believe what the posters who are watching the game are trying to tell you is that two of those hits should have been outs due to poor defense. LeMahieu whiffed on a scoop, and then Wade hesitated on a throw home. Those are plays that should have been outs.

Loaisiga and Green have both been used in the 8th inning this season. Johnny threw 36 pitches in Sunday and Chad hasn't pitched since Saturday. Easy to say now, but maybe Green should have been in there tonight?
