Let me start this off by saying this isn't going to be as well thought out and researched as an inger / jwild post...
Now that we got that outta the way...When Altuve got his 200th hit the other night, I saw that he was one of like 4 (right handed) players in the past 70 years to have 4 straight 200 hit seasons. Michael Young was on that last. Do you think if Young was a Yankee he would get more credit? I was looking at this stats, and while the counting totals aren't as high as Jeter's because Jeter played in 6 more seasons than young... his 162 game averages are pretty Jeter-ish.
Lets compare:
Jeter- 310/377/440/815 115 OPS+ with 15 home runs, 32 doubles, 4 triples, 204 hits Led the league in hits twice Young- 300/346/441/787 104 OPS+ with 15 home runs, 36 doubles, 5 triples, 195 hits Led the league in hits twice
Now, Jeter is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Young, while not doing it for nearly as long as Jeter, has no consideration for the Hall (and maybe he shouldn't) but if he had played for the Yankees his whole career... I think he would be considered borderline. He was pretty much a middle infielder his whole career. (BA calls him a SS, 2nd and 3rd baseman)
Lets discuss!!! (once again, not saying Young IS a Hall of Famer... and definately not saying Young is AS GOOD AS Jeter... but they produced very very similar career 162 game averages.. Jeter just happened to do his longer, AND have higher peaks)

Quick discussion for me. No. Michael Young received plenty of plaudits when he played. Most of the were rightfully lauded upon him for his consistent hitting. He was an All-Star seven times, won a questionable gold glove. Jeter won that award five times, with the last two likely in that questionable category because he had lost much of his range, but could still handle everything he could get to and had one of the most accurate infield arms imaginable.
I consider Michael Young to be a real good player. I also feel as though his "versatility" was more a statement of the team finding a place to get him on the field where he could be adequate after he was no longer good enough to play shortstop...The bats were not as close as you make it out to be. Jeter was 120+ OPS or higher nine times, Young, three times. Would we as a group of Yankee fans have loved Michael Young more as a Yankee? Of course we would have, but that wouldn't have made him one bit better than he was...A real good player. Not a great player to mentioned in the same breath with the truly qualified HOF members...

Jeter played in a park that was friendlier to lefties. Texas is a really good hitters park. Young's OPS was over .100 greater at home. At Rangers ballpark in 100+ at bats Jeter's OPS was 1.104.

So what you're saying is.. you agree with me? If you're saying that Young was a pretty good player, yeah. If you're saying he was very good, then...sorta. If you take into consideration what Rizzuto is saying, then you can add a good bit of perspective to the whole issue...If a player could play his games on a little league field at home all the time, he'd accumulate some serious offensive stats...

Sometimes it feels like I drove Sierchio away because we disagreed so often. I hope not. I miss Chuck the Blade, too. And, where the heck has Pipps been lately? We need some of his Most Interesting Man In The World posts and his unique brushes with both greatness and the sublime, as well as tales of his peregrinations to foreign lands in his clandestine role as super-spy, keeping us all safe from the machinations of despots, terrorists, and Red Sox fans.

Nah, I don't think Sierch left because of anyone. He's just off doing his own thing. I tried messaging Chuck to get him back but I didn't hear back from him the last time I emailed him. Pipps has probably gone off to one of his espionage adventures. He'll be back. If not I have his phone number to track him down. You'd think the most interesting man in the world would have an iPhone but my text messages with him are in green so its not an Apple device. He probably has some spy device that's not even on the market.

If it ever shuts off he might be back…

He didn’t field well, though. A lot like Jason Giambi…
