Anytime that guy writes or posts or reports something about the Yankees, this song always pops into my head: I got into Bowie after he passed. Wish I had discovered him sooner. That's the wonderful thing about art; it lives on. I marvel at those with talent to draw, paint, sculpt, sing, or produce sheer transcendence with musical instruments.

yanksgoyard.com/2022/02/26/yankees-luis-severino-projections-fangraphs-worries/I would be quite happy with 156 innings and 24 starts from Severino next season, which would be just about what Jordan Montgomery provided last season in the number two role, which assisted the Yankees to win 92 ball games in the American League East. As any Yankee fan knows, it was not pitching that held this team back last year. A healthy LeMahieu and Urshela would have had the Yankees tapping on the 100 win door. Heck, I figured Ba-Boone's mismanagement likely cost the Yankees at least eight to twelve games. There is no way Chad Green should have thrown over 80 innings in relief, when Michael King was wasted on the AAA bus early in the year, and Clay Holmes in Pinstripes only accumulated 28 innings, many of which he was removed from the game with fewer than twelve brilliant pitches thrown. Let's not fail to mention the misplaced faith in Justin Wilson and Andrew Heaney. Monty will be another year away from his Tommy John surgery, and he was victim of so many defensive miscues (Torres especially) last season, yet still allowed three earned runs or fewer in 24 of his 30 starts. If that is not a number two starter, then what is? It's not his fault he was lifted for a reliever in ten starts having thrown 79 pitches or fewer. I look for a much more efficient and consistent James Taillon next season, who shall also be another season removed from Tommy John surgery and perhaps more impressively his old pitching mechanics. His adjustment to his new throwing motion was quicker than I expected. Remember, Severino just must improve on the results last season of Corey Kluber (whom the Yankees should have re-signed - Tampa Bay even got him for less money), and 156 innings is nearly double Kluber's 80 innings. If I am the manager, I pencil in Jordan Montgomery in between Gerrit Cole and Luis Severino to break up the right-handers in a series. Let's not forget, even if the Yankees do not sign another starter, there was much to like about Luis Gil's performance last season, as well as Nestor Cortes, Jr. Domingo German, Michael King, and Clarke Schmidt should be able to spot start quite effectively in any case, if two of them are not traded after the lockout.

Listening to Buster Olney's Baseball Tonight Podcast, Anthony Volpe was one of the subjects discussed by a guest who concentrates on minor league baseball and the draft. According to the guest, Volpe was drafted as a "skills over athleticism" choice and had coaches enamored with his maturity and mental makeup. What has happened over the past year has launched Volpe into the top ten of all MLB prospects, specifically his ability to hit with unexpected power and average.
Olney asked the guest for a comparison to former or current MLB players on the arc of Volpe, and the guest stated that he did not have one that fitted perfectly. When Olney commented that he's heard comparisons to Derek Jeter, the guest confirmed that in intangibles and leadership ability Volpe certainly could be compared to Jeter, stating that Volpe leads by example in the way he plays the game, handles himself on and off the field, and the respect he garners from teammates and coaches. At one point, the guest stated that it is what's between Volpe's ears that sets him apart.

I hope someone doesn't snag him in the Rule 5 draft (there probably will be one after the lockout ends). That would be disappointing.

When the Yankees didn’t protect him, I assumed he would be gone - at least temporarily. If someone puts him on an active roster and he performs, we will have lost a starting catcher for one more year of Sandwich 🥪.

RANGERS ARE LOADING UP???
...One of the most notable names among the yet-unsigned players on the market is three-time Cy Young winner and 2014 NL MVP Clayton Kershaw, who became a free agent for the first time at season’s end. The prevailing wisdom since he hit the market has been that Kershaw would either return to the Dodgers or sign with the Rangers, as Kershaw’s Dallas home is a short drive from Arlington’s Globe Life Field.
It’s already been a huge offseason for the Rangers, who’ve signed Seager, Marcus Semien, Jon Gray and Kole Calhoun as they shift gears from an abbreviated rebuild to a clear win-now approach. Despite doling out a more than a half-billion dollars in free agent contracts, however, the Rangers still ought to have the financial wherewithal to add Kershaw.
The Rangers are projected for a payroll of roughly $127MM, per Roster Resource’s Jason Martinez, and they have only $80.25MM in guaranteed 2023 contracts to consider.
Braves' competition for Matt Olson growing by the day
MAKES SENSE = Younger, Less Salary, etc. (but will have to give up Prospects for him--but Braves have a deep farm system)???

According to John Hey-Man: "Yankees requested/received medicals for free agents Carlos "North" Correa, Carlos "Godzilla vs." Rodon and Yusei " I Only Hear What I Want To" Kikuchi pre lockout. Smart to cover bases since 2nd free agency will be frenzied. SS/SP are needs but they do have 2 good SS prospects."
Okay, some of the quote was me.
