Dont think PGA expected guys like DJ to do this, gonna be interesting how they approach their majors and allowing these players to play. Exactly, he was a huge get for this event. With Phil, Sergio, MacDowell and some of the older UK and South African golfers like Poulter, Westwood, Ouisthazen, and Schwarzl signing on -- and a pretty fair golfer like Kevin Na actually resigning from the PGA to play -- this has gone much further than the PGA probably felt was possible. Although for now most of the entrants are a bit past their peaks, there are some serious names out there. Lots of money floating around.

I just read that Rickie Fowler is expected to be the next name player to sign on.
Although I think Fowler has gotten more mileage out of five tour wins than just about any golfer ever. By comparison, when Billy Horschel won Jack's Memorial Tournament yesterday, that gave him seven tour wins, and he's only a year older than Rickie and surely never garnered nearly as much publicity.
Fowler has been much better in the Majors for sure -- no wins, but a third in the PGA and seconds in the other three.

Golf in turmoil: Johnson resigns PGA Tour, Mickelson joins LIV, Norman attacks | D'Angelo.
DeChambeau, Reed to join Saudi-funded golf league in U.S.
Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed plan to sign up with the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Invitational series. The PGA Tour did not grant releases for its players to compete outside London this week, and some of them have resigned their memberships.
Players are getting massive signing bonuses to join Greg Norman’s LIV Golf league.

Phew, it's getting serious now. DeChambeau and Reed are of course huge names. But it's no different than some of the NFL players jumping to the AFL when it started, or NHL stars like Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe signing up with the WHA. Eventually an accommodation is reached.
But for now this rocks the PGA. Money talks, and very loudly. Too many more players join and it will be self-destructive for the PGA to try to penalize them.

This is not about human rights, or anything that’s not related to golf. They’re playing golf, not taking over the world. To me, golf is golf. Even on my level. I played a couple courses that were expensive, and doing that those courses and the local muni’s are basically the same. In the end, yiu’re laying golf, which is what you came for. One course might be more scenic, or have more flowers. But a par 4 still takes 4 strokes on either course…

I just never thought it would get this far.

Many years ago, there was a girl I was engaged to who looked very much like her. She left me for an Iranian taxi cab driver who used to beat her. Not my proudest moment. I dropped out of college and moved to Texas to work at a manufacturing plant that made baffle-rod heat exchangers. I was hired to write and institute a manual for inventory control. While there, I met a bunch of cool cats, played on the plant's commercial/industrial league softball team, manning third base and in the late innings shortstop (we had a talented shortstop for seven and sometimes eight innings, but he would implode if the score was close). It should be mentioned that those cool cats on my team drank more alcohol than any humans I had ever seen, and somehow I took to their imbibing rituals with glee and surprising endurance. Somehow, whiskey never tasted better. Months later, she called me to try to patch things up, saying "I will get you back." My whiskey-soaked reply was "My love, I wouldn't hold my breath." Not many weeks after that telephone call, Sarah drove to Texas to visit me for the weekend. We had been friends for a year and a half. A few months later, we were inseparable. I moved back to Louisiana to finish my degree before I turned into a functional alcoholic - like those cool cats. After the mortar board ceremony, I drove to Baton Rouge and moved in with Sarah and her folks to help with the bills, mortgage, and car payments after her dad lost his job. I enrolled in graduate school and began the happiest years of my life with Sarah. And, who says alcohol cannot bestow inspiration and set one on course? Funny that now I rarely drink at all. But, as someone once said, alcohol is a good friend but a bad master.
