I think azbob was trying to find a comp to help defend Torres, but no comp is needed as Torres recanted an initial statement that he (Torres) made in haste. I know azbob had no intent to defile Jeter, and I believe it started as a theoretical question and took a wrong turn in further discussion. My point is not Jeter vs Arod…not even close. It’s that labeling a player acting in his own self-interest as not being a “team player” is unjustified. I chose to use Jeter as an example of a player doing just that IMO, which I said is understandable and even justified. I could’ve chosen any other player who’s done the same.

Gleyber has been a huge disappointment and so far has let the team down when they needed him most. He's unfortunately played himself off of the Yankees and out of a big contract. He's not in the plans for the future and Chisholm now is? It's unfortunate and disappointing but they have to do whats best for the team ... not Gleyber This has nothing to do with Gleyber's play this year…don’t know why you keep bringing it up. But since you have...are you still clamoring for Gleyber to move to 3B, rather than Chisholm? Point is the way Gleyber is playing and being a FA ...He has 0 leverage and is going to play where he's told, if he's palying at all. He might start losing time to Cabrera or whoever the Yankees decide to bring up or bring in And absolutely not ... I saw enough of Chisholm at 3rd last night to see he is a much better player then Gleyber regardless of where the Yankees decide to play him. Again, I was as big a Gleyber fan as anyone but he has been by far the biggest disappointment on the Yankees this season, in every aspect of the game

It's so long ago, but I think that the Arod trade was made with the understanding that he would play 3B. I don't know if Jeter had any input or not. What I do know is that Arod agreed to play 3B, and had he stayed at Shortstop he likely would have had the record for HRs as a Shortstop.
Sounds like Gleyber wasn't thrilled about moving to 3B, hence his he's a 2Bman he plays 2B comment. But he didn't totally flat out refuse to move to 3B, hence his everything is on the table comment.
My 2 cents... As I mentioned a few weeks ago...It wouldn't be unfair to ask any player in his contract year to change positions mid season. My thoughts are to keep Gleyber at 2B. He has the talent to play 3B, but I'm not sure if he can do so mentally. Even more so after hearing that he didn't like playing 3B when he was a prospect. If he's happy at 2B than leave him there, Jazz seems to be the more versatile player anyway.

The Yankee culture is pay $30 million to a DH that doesn't play the field or run and isn't expected to hustle. Guys that are owed big contracts have a guaranteed spot in the lineup even when hurting the team. Injured guys are allowed to laugh and joke around on the bench when the team is losing. Why would a guy that wanted an extension and told no play it out agree to move positions?

Brett Phillips used to pitch for fun -- now Yanks want to see what he's got 1:39 PM EDT Jason Foster@ByJasonFoster
Former big leaguer Brett Phillips is no stranger to the pitcher's mound. He toed the rubber 5 times in blowouts during his 7-year MLB playing career and seemed to have fun doing it. Now, he's taking things up a notch.
Phillips, 30, is looking to make his way back to the Majors as a pitcher and his raw stuff has enticed the Yankees to sign him to a Minor League deal, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. The club has not confirmed the deal.
During an appearance on Monday for the GPS Legends in the National Baseball Conference World Series in Wichita, Kan., Phillips became a surprise social media star by throwing 97 mph fastballs and featuring a pretty good slider while striking out the side in the first inning.
Phillips usually tossed 50 mph lobs to batters during those few MLB pitching appearances, which led to a 15.19 ERA, so this version of him came as quite a surprise -- so much that the announcers calling the game on Monday weren't sure whether it was the Brett Phillips.
"He looks a lot like the Brett Phillips, who played in the Major Leagues," one announcer said. "... I honestly still don't know if it is."
It definitely is, and Phillips' stuff sure got people's attention. The GPS Legends are an instructional team in Texas that gave Phillips the chance to develop his pitching skills.
“Honestly, it felt like I was playing in the big leagues,” Phillips told The Wichita Eagle after Monday's game. “Just because of how new [pitching] is to me, that’s how it felt emotions-wise. I’m excited to see where this takes me, but it was a great first step.”
While Phillips had a reputation as a jovial jokester during his MLB career, he's serious about the pitching venture. It's far from a fun whim. “This wasn’t something where I got ready in a week for this,” he told the Eagle. “I’ve put in a lot of good work. This has been a thought-out process and something I really want to pursue, and I feel like I can still make a difference at the big league level.”
Phillips last played in the big leagues with the Angels in 2023. He signed as a free agent with the White Sox in January but he was released in May. His biggest MLB moment came in the 2020 World Series, when, as a member of the Rays, he got a walk-off hit to win Game 4.
Overall, he's produced a slash line of .187/.272/.347 during stints with the Brewers, Royals, Rays, Orioles and Angels.
Along with the confidence Phillips has in his new mound abilities, his Legends coach is equally sure this new venture will succeed.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s going to make that journey all the way back to where he wants to be,” Legends Coach Daryl Reeves told the Eagle.
The love of the game has a tendency to keep the competitive fire burning – and it appears that Phillips will get a chance in the Yankees' farm system.

Cole to miss tonight's start due to "general body fatigue." Maybe he has COVID? Anyway, Warren is making his big league debut...against the mighty Phillies.

I don’t mind this. Cole’s been inconsistent and if he’s tired we need him for the long run…
Warren is better than you might think. AAA is harder to pitch in than the majors right now with the elevated offense…

I'm previewing this from my pregame notes and stuff just for the Cole thing:
Will Warren, the current Yankees top pitching prospect is being called up from AAA, where he's having a dreadful season, 5-5 with a 6.68 ERA, 99 hits, 18 HR and 35 BB in 95 2/3 innings. He does have 115 strikeouts, and had pitched very well in his last 4 starts at Scranton: 21 2/3 innings, 14 hits, 9 runs, 7 earned, 2 HR, 6 BB and 30 K's. Despite the very poor pitching earlier, Warren is currently the #3 prospect in the organization at Fangraphs, and Longerhagen did a prospect update on every pitcher in his top 100, and had this to say about Warren: "The next several pitchers (the Twins’ David Festa, the Yankees’ Will Warren, the Cardinals’ Quinn Mathews, the Yankees’ Chase Hampton, the White Sox’ Drew Thorpe, the Reds’ Rhett Lowder, the White Sox’ Jairo Iriarte) are all plug-and-play no. 4 starters who are proximate to the big leagues. Warren could take a turn in the Yankees rotation tomorrow and be good." The bit about Thorpe is rather odd, as he's already in the White Sox' rotation, and has been for basically seven weeks now. Thorpe was doing great until the Mariners hammered him for 8 earned runs in just 2/3 of an inning in his last start, 3-1 with an ERA just over 3.00.

Cross Tanner Scott of the list, he's being traded to the Padres, who also traded for the Rays Jason Adam a few days ago.

De los Santos strikes hitters out and doesn't walk a lot of guys, but he's had problems with the homerun ball this season, giving up 11 in just 40 innings. He was very good last season, so maybe the Yankees get lucky he reverts back to his 2023 self.
