Logically you look at past distributions and access how likely it is. You can bet on a lottery that has a negative expected pay off and win, but as the great baseball sage Thurber said, that is not the way to bet. I think they just took what they could get and are not expecting much. High risk is not really the way Cashman operates. I think it would have been more constructive to get an elite player to put in the roster spot first. We didn’t need an elite player. Rizzo is pretty darned talented. He may be able to re-establish himself among the elite. He has an elite K rate. Just what you always ask for. Contact… I disagree we did not need an elite player or that Rizzo can hit his way out of a garbage bag which our greatest need. We have all but two players hit below .250 (often a lot below) and a questionable injury prone pitching staff. Neither win you WS.

That’s because you have no clue what wins games… It’s not a collection of great players, it’s a great team. Last years team never gelled into the sum of the parts, lacked depth and zeal. The corners were bent on the cards, the dice rolled off the table… it was ugly…

Great would have made it to the WS. We will see if batting .230 works going forward as a means of winning WS. I know you think hitting for average is not important. I think the lack of Yankee success in the play offs shows you are wrong.

Perhaps your memory is that of a squirrel’s. I believe there is a lot more to offense than that single facet, so there’s that…
