Cole should have just punted this question. Lame excuse making won't cutting.

Wish I could have seen the game, but I don't mind any Yankees' win, as all is right with the world.

I think Cole had just worked himself up into a frenzy and was ready to roll, but there was a beaming Billy Crystal savoring the moment of throwing out the first pitch. It did throw Cole off because the first four Red Sox reached safely and Cole looked horrible. After that he settled in and was the Cole we would expect. I noticed he passed by Crystal on his way to the mound without any pleasantries

This is a little demo of what I meant last season when I said I think Cole can be a bit of a head case at times. This was a bit heady. C’mon, be a professional. Maybe you costed yourself a win today. At least it didn’t cost the team…

Why not start out with a curve ball for a strike to gather yourself and calm down. Nolan Ryan threw a first pitch curve ball to so many batters, just to get them thinking about that yacker with two strikes.

There is such a thing as establishing the fastball, big it needn’t always be with the first pitch of the game… or even the first batter. Pitching is about upsetting timing…

Well, I watched the highlights, so please correct me if my surmises are off.
The defense at shortstop and first base is a huge reason for three double plays. The second play of the inning for Rizzo was a thing of beauty and a keen understanding of what to do around the bag. He was on the foul ground side of first base with a runner barreling down the line. Vaya con Dios, Señor Voit!
Kiner-Falefa showed his range, athleticism, and soft hands at short and his speed in scoring the winning run that wasn't remotely close. Donaldson and Judge bring the ability to walk, homer, and bang out base hits at the top of the order, and even Gleyber showed some restraint on the sacrifice fly as a pinch hitter.
Mike "The Falafel" King has such wicked movement, he's going to give up those dying quails and soft grounders, much like Mariano used to do. (No, I am not comparing the two, only the ability for late movement to produce poor outcomes on good pitches) Everything moves with The Egg Roll King. Big strikeout for the freshly groomed, Met-glove wearing Miguel Castro. And, Chapman is already hitting 100 mph and a 1-2-3 inning.
Stanton steals another sombrero from Inger's porch, but the home run does provide recompense. Gallo. Gallo. Joey Gallo looks good wearing Pinstripes.
And, LeMahieu recovered from his sports hernia!

You have to put the ball in play!!!

Of course, the Yankees also hit 3 HR's!

My sentiments exactly. LeMahieu even during spring training looked much more fluid and was going to the opposite field the way he did in his first two years with the Yankees. I would not be shocked to see him have a big rebound this season. Rizzo was brilliant making at least two scoops that would have gone for game-changing errors under the Voit Administration. Satay King looked as good as I've ever seen him. And I was surprised that Gleyber hung in there well enough to get the sac fly. He took what looked like a very sluggable pitch for strike one and waved weakly at strike two before doing what needed to be done. It's only one game, but it felt good.
