WWII veteran turns 100 years old next month. My father would have been 98 next year. He worked in the ship yards following his high school graduation at 17 years old, then joined the Navy after turning 18. Stationed in the Philippines. The Greatest Generation was steeped in rugged individualism, a maniacal work ethic, and a nearly impervious sense of duty. Interesting. My father would also have turned 98 this year, although in what was then called the Army Air Force and was also stationed in the Philippines, at Clark Air Base. He exactly fit your description.

A life-changing experience for sure. It took some adjustment at first. I remember you discussing it before. I have to dig up those posts. Got to run and break fast for now! Bon Appetit, mon ami!

I'll take that own-age over 19 games, Anthony. Hey, are we still playing division rivals 19 times, and does that change next year? I have forgotten. I think it's this year yes but next year it's only 13 or 14 so they can play every mlb team Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That makes little sense to me, essentially four series with your division rivals over the course of a 162 game season.

When I was working in the Middle East we made sure to schedule Ramadan meetings with our Saudi or Kuwaiti or Bahraini counterparts before 10 AM (they would get in late) or after 2 PM (they were starting to get irritable and wouldn't agree to anything.) There's a potential Monty Python sketch in there somewhere. When I was living in the dorm, my friend Reza Hijchak from Iran would often offer me tea. I was never a coffee or tea drinker, but this was the best tea I had or have ever tasted. He brought a big plastic bag of tea leaves from home. It was wonderful. If I could have tea that tastes like that I would probably have a cup daily. All meetings with Middle Easterners begin with tea, whether you're shopping for a carpet or negotiating a treaty. One thing I had to repeatedly stress with visitors coming in was that you never started a meeting by getting straight to the reason the meeting was being held.

Supposedly, my father spent his time setting up radio antennas in palm trees while carrying an M-1 carbine (which he always regretted not smuggling home - he said he returned everything upon mustering out but most of his buddies did not), sending out dummy messages and attempting to pick up enemy chatter.

That could be the biggest outfield group in the history of baseball: 6'5" 250, 6'6" 245, and 6'7" 282. 19’ 6” and 777 pounds. That almost as big as Andre the Giant…

Inger makes that catch in the stands. 2/3 of the earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Senor Inger. Hey! You saying I can’t get to balls hit in the water? I feel slighted!…

I have an Aunt and Uncle who are 80 and 82. I have always just called them by their first names, but their older siblings got the full Aunt and Uncle title. I'm not quite sure where the dividing line is supposed to be chronologically.

I have an Aunt and Uncle who are 80 and 82. I have always just called them by their first names, but their older siblings got the full Aunt and Uncle title. I'm not quite sure where the dividing line is supposed to be chronologically. I only remember one Aunt, Rita. Da one frum nord jerzey. Lots of cursing. Most common word in her language was goddam. I gotta get some goddam breakfast. Where’s your goddam mother? Tell her to get the goddam hell over here. I can’t figure out how to turn dis goddam tv on. She was most definitely AUNT Rita. To everyone. Maybe even her boyfriend. Her doctor. Her grocer. The mailman. My mom called her Rita. She called mom “Mel” for Malvina…Malvina Eliza Theresa Pearl Lajuenesse Ingerson. I never knew if Rita also had a string of names like that. I typed Rita there and waited for the bolt of “goddam” lightning to strike. It never came…
