You know the old saying, "he can't hit his weight"? I wish some of these guys could.

The models ideal is not always the true ideal. I remember the Charlie Lau “Helicopter Swing”. It worked wonderfully for George Brett. It didn’t work for everyone, which is why not everyone won batting titles with it…

Team batting line down to .220/.301/.342 (.643 OPS) Chris Carter hit .201/.284/.370 (.653 OPS) as a Yankee and was DFAed
Though league-wide offense is also terrible: .230/.309/.369 as a whole.
This is what happens when launch angle takes the place of actually hitting the ball. Players attempting to groove swings like they're playing golf and the ball doesn't move. Exactly.

It's this and shifts and a whole bunch of gas throwing relievers with nasty stuff. MLB needs to fix this because the entertainment value of the game is going down the drain.

At one point I heard mention of moving the mound back 5’. My first reaction was that there would be even more arm injuries. But with starters in the game for 4-5 innings, maybe not… Maybe instead of pitchers working off a 10” mound, they should pitch out of a 10” depression in the ground. Jk… But then again, we once lowered the mound. Should we do away with it? Pitching off flat ground?

They could limit the number of pitchers who could be on a team and outlaw the shift and improve the offense but they have limited interest in doing so.

When you have a player like Cleveland's Kwan who still has yet to swing and miss at a single pitch this season, I'd say it's mostly the approach. Not one team shifts on players who hit to the opposite field, which is essentially staying on the ball where it is pitched without trying to pull it in the seats. With the situational understanding and a two-strike approach, a batter can be late on a pitch and still go to the opposite field. Nobody shifts on DJ LeMahieu either, and he's no Hall of Famer.
