I didn't see this coming after how the series started. But once the Devils changed their goalie (for a rookie!) they just transformed.
I expect the Rangers are going to make big changes and rightfully so. Too bad our highly picked rookies are not playing at any level near Hughes. Missed him by one. :-(

Missed him by one. :-( A Yankee-like offense for the Broadway Blues in this series. Two goals in four games is not going to cut it. All the machinations to get Tarasenko and Kane went for naught. Not quite Bruins-level underachievement, but close. Last President's Cup winner to bring home Lord Stanley was the 2013 Blackhawks. Hockey playoffs have always been the most dicey of any sport. |

I saw that piece of garbage Jacob Trouba got in one more head shot to an opposing player before his season ended. Someone will have to die on the ice for the NHL joins the real world and gets dirty hits like that one out of the game. Hockey is beautiful sport when it's played the right way but the NHL doesn't want that.

Hockey is beautiful sport when it's played the right way but the NHL doesn't want that. Somehow he won The Rod Gilbert Award for the Rangers this year, although I don't see much similarity in their games. I have to say that despite the periodic cheap shots, the NHL is much more buttoned-down than it was 50 or 60 years ago when the players wore far less protection. I suppose actual cheap shots are as common as ever, what has changed is the amount of fighting largely due to the third-man-in rule. Guys like Tiger Williams and Dave Schultz and Bob Probert and Ty Domi and Marty McSorley were not being paid primarily for their hockey skills any more than Trouba is. But those guys really were more brawlers than headhunters. Now Dale Hunter was a genuine cheap shot artist if you remember him. |
