We got a lot of walks and home runs. I am not talking about runs, I am talking about hits. We got 2 hits today and 5 runs and were not on base I think from the 2nd to 8th inning. I don't care for that type of baseball and I suspect I am not alone. When you get two starting pitchers with ERA's well under 2 hooking up, you shouldn't expect alot of offense. They were both top six in ERA in MLB, but Russ expects them both to get lit up for 8 runs… That’s what I call an accelerated regression model…

He really isn't a fluke anymore.

Indeed, both pitchers surrendering fewer than two runs per game, six hits between the two teams is not unreasonable if both are on their game. One would think any baseball fan would appreciate another sterling outing from Nestor Cortes, Jr. with an incredible 8 innings and only 3 base runners, the lone run a solo shot in the eighth. He has been the ace of the staff thus far this season. What a story! I expected a step-back this season, not believing his fastball could continue to play up to hitters, the league now knowing what is coming, and he starts carving up righties with a cut-fastball. Wonderful evolution of a young pitcher!

I’m not so sure we’re going to have a big problem with low offense this season. It stayed cold a long time. The baseball has typically been hard to hit in cold weather. I think over all bats are starting to come alive. They’ll quiet down again towards the post season…

But I was talking about in general not one game. Hitting is awful in MLB compared to the glory years of the game (1900-1960) I am sure. So I suspect is stealing and of course strategy like bunting, hit and runs, suicide squeezes and so on. Different people like different type of baseball, but I expect Americans (especially younger Americans) would prefer a game with more non-home run hits and more stealing and less dominance by pitchers than we have today.

I don't think most games are exactly cold (in terms of temperature) now.
