I think there's a realistic chance we whiff in top targets, there aren't many out there and the demand is high. Hope it isn't the case, but bracing for a disappointing deadline for the Yanks. Would we be okay with a Quintana and 1-2 relievers? Quintana and two relievers would be a little underwhelming but there's not a lot of quality #2 caliber starting pitching left out there after Montas. So, that is what I expect at this point.

Would we be okay with a Quintana and 1-2 relievers? Quintana would help the rest of the regular season since the pitching staff is little beat up right now, but would he make any difference in the post season? I don't think so. Yea he's solid, but a #2 behind Cole? Probably not. I hope this doesn't happen since both these guys kill the Yankees: www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/astros-trade-rumors-christian-vazquez-red-sox-ji-man-choi-rays.html

Montas is not a game changer, actually the only game changing pitcher has been traded.

I like Quin, get D-Rob and another reliever....keep holding the prospects. Bring up Peraza now, trade IKF. Rodon is another possibility if the Giants are selling.

I know Hal prefers Quin because he's dirt cheap while Rodon makes 22 million a year.

Juan Soto’s presence on the trade market has, in many ways, held up activity in other areas. Teams like the Cardinals and Padres, generally viewed as two of Soto’s top suitors, are also involved in the market for starting pitching. But, both are surely wary of dealing prospects to acquire a starter (e.g. Oakland’s Frankie Montas) if those same players might eventually be used to pry Soto loose from Washington. ESPN’s Jeff Passan takes a lengthy look at the logjam Soto has created, writing within that the Yankees are a “long shot at best” to make a play for Soto before the deadline and suggesting that the Rangers, for now, are not a prominent bidder. That meshes with recent reporting from the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, who wrote last night that there was “no traction” between the Yankees and Nationals regarding Soto, even though the Yankees reached out as recently as yesterday evening. Heyman adds that the Nationals aren’t as high on top prospect Anthony Volpe as the Yankees and many other clubs are, which is a complicating factor in talks.
Regardless of whether Soto specifically changes hands, the market will erupt sometime between now and tomorrow’s 6pm ET deadline. The ticking clock is going to eventually drive teams into activity, and given the lack of movement thus far, we could be in for one of the most active and chaotic 24- to 30-hour spans of deadline dealing we’ve ever seen.

I don't think Soto is going anywhere. Nats should just keep him.

Montas is not a game changer, actually the only game changing pitcher has been traded. Their numbers are pretty identical, I think Montas is being overlooked because Castillo had a dazzling performance vs NYY. Montas would be a really good addition. Castillo 2.1 WAR, Montas 2.0 Castillo 2.86 era, Montas 3.18 Castillo 1.07 whip to 1.13 Montas better K/BB 3.89 to Castillo 3.09
