Ohtani is going to win just about anything his name is on for a long time. So few fans really know baseball… On Buster Olney's podcast, Karl Ravech and others were downplaying Alvarez and also Judge for MVP, even if he hits 60 homers. The rationale is that no other baseball player pitches and hits like Ohtani, and that his numbers this season may exceed last season. Someone said that if Judge or Alvarez wins, then Vlad, Jr. should call a news conference to point to his performance last season, coming in second. Few baseball writers these days have any courage or insight to go against a mob mentality. The only one who speaks his mind is the misanthropic Phil Mushnick, who is easily dismissed as a crank. I truly feel that Inger and a couple of the other Posters on this board should be named to the All Star Team for the SHIT they have gone thru in the last year or two. BRAVO to them for getting thru it.
I am currently on Medical Road Trip for many Ailments = BUT I am NO All Star WHATSOEVER, For I alone (my prior actions/habits) got me to this sad but deserving results.
Today, it was 5-hour plus drive in 105 humid heat on 1-lane winding steep roads. My only appt. was with my eye doctor. He stated I am not going blind yet--for at maybe another 5-years, but need some surgery--after I told him about my other ailments, he stated He doubted I would last another Five Years --at least he was kinds of nice about it.
Tomorrow I meet with my Mexican Accountant and one of my Lawyers--in the Evening I meet with my Prostate Doctor and, my latest PSA test results shows a 21=:Like Death knocking on your door.
Plus still need two more Critical if not 3 other Medical Exams -- But I cannot do all this on one the same trip= Too hot, too Humid, too Sad, too DEPRESSED and then the Stress & Anxiety PLUS Beyond Belief I DO NOT EVEN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE!!!
And these illness were ALL UNDER my control = earlier in my life I could have change my bad habits and even started to make changes too; but I thought FK it; for it so more important to have fun constantly.
So congratulation to all the MLB All star Players and the All Staff Posters on he Board.
For me, I now only hear Tick-Tok; Tick-Tok; Tick Tok: = But I Still Giggle & Laugh (swing for the fences still).
May it be the Greatest All Star Game (PLEASE).

Sorry to hear about your health problems, dome. Glad you still seem to have your sense of humor though. What can we do. We all get old and our health begins to fail us. At least you can say you've lived an adventurous life on your terms. Hoping you aren't in any discomfort and are able to truck along with all of us for many years to come! |

That's a moving and painfully honest reflection, DoMe. We're each only allotted so much time, but as nearly as I can figure you've used yours adventurously, which is overwhelmingly a good thing. We all know examples of the Worst Case Scenario never coming to pass -- although realistically sometimes it does -- the fact that your prognosis is in terms of five years out seems to leave a lot of wiggle room. Like those Yankee Prospects! When you first get a diagnosis like that it rocks your world, for sure. All the more reason to live life to the hilt, to the extent that you are able, and of course to the extent that it doesn't make things worse. Don't beat yourself up for things that happened in the past. Those can never be undone. Keep on, as you said, swinging for the fences. Maybe more like Aaron Judge than Joey Gallo. We're all pulling for you and look forward to many more chapters of outrageous gambling on golf tournaments and Tequila's uncanny avian wisdom. |

There is nothing worse than health problems, Dome. No matter what we do, right or wrong, our health can turn sour at any moment. I will say that I’ve known many people that had a poor medical prognosis and outlived what the doctors predicted by many years. I hope that will be the case for you, friend. Living your best life has always been a talent you’ve had. Keep reaching for the stars and doing that. As for personal problems, I know that I stood as a martyr more than once, and that some of my problems were therefore self-imposed. For the most part, I’ve gotten better than I deserved. That doesn’t mean it was any less tortuous at the time. At the least I have chosen quality of life over money many, many times. We don’t know when we’re moving on to our spirit lives. You may outlive everyone on this forum, we may all perish today in some natural disaster. All we can do is dig in to each day with as much aplomb as possible. And continue to do so each time around. How does it end? Books are written on the subject, but they’re not books based upon experience, just conjecture and innuendo… |

'Completely rogue': Yankees’ Nestor Cortes might do something special on mound at All-Star Game
Maybe Nestor Cortes will hold his leg kick for forever. Maybe he’ll wind up his arm like a cartoon. Maybe he’ll bust out a dance move as he starts toward the plate.
Either way, the Yankees left-hander doesn’t plan to walk onto the mound and not give the fans a show at the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night.
Asked if he had any tricks up his sleeve, Cortes said he expects to have a little bit of fun.
“Yeah, I might,” he said before Sunday’s 13-2 win over the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. “I’ve thought about it. I’m probably going to go completely rogue on that.
‘You’ll probably see some cool stuff out there.”
He promises that he won’t go overboard, though.
“Obviously,” he said, “I don’t want to look like a fool. But I think there’s going to be a time and a place for that and the stage is going to be set up for that.”
