When you cant place the fastball he throws way too many sliders and gets bombed.

It worked! 100 mph gas to end the inning.

One bad pitch and poor pitch selection in my opinion to a right-handed batter late in the count. Great strikeout on that last 100 mph fastball to end the inning. Solid strikeout on a slider in the dirt (where you want to throw it for strike three). Overall, Chapman hit 97 to 102 on the fastball, velocity improved as the inning progressed. This was an encouraging outing to me even with the home run.

I wonder if the Yankees would bench Gallo if he falls below .100. We might find out.

It's not pretty seeing a guy that can throw a 102 mph fastball, trying to trick batters with a slider in the zone. He's pitching like he doesn't want to make a mistake. Credit Blake for the cajones to come to the mound with two outs, interrupting a 2-2 count to a veteran like Chapman and telling him to throw his fastball. Chapman looked happy with Blake on the bench. I think he knows they are trying to help him. If it were me, I would tell Chapman that he isn't calling his own pitches anymore until he gets into a rhythm again. Meaning, all his pitches will be called by the bench or the catcher. Get him to stop thinking and just react and compete.
