It's hard to find definitive information on the longest Yankee hitless streak. Derek Jeter, Jimmy Wynn and Yogi Berra all had 0-32 streaks. Babe Ruth's longest was 0-21, Lou Gehrig's 0-20. Mike Trout had an 0-24 earlier this year. The longest hitless streaks of Ted Williams and Ty Cobb were 0-17. Tony Gwynn's was 0-19. Robin Ventura had an 0-41 as a rookie. Luis Aparicio had an 0-44. I remember that one streak for Jeter. His balance was so out of whack. He kept folding up his body during the swing like a lawn chair. His last year was the worst because he never had his legs under him, not being able to properly train in the off season due to his ankle surgery. He actually had horrible numbers against left-handed pitchers that season, which was never the case. He hit .333 in his career against lefties. |
