It's easier on the system to sleep through these West Coast atrocities and just read about them in the morning rather than experiencing them as they happen. This Yankee season is some kind of historical anomaly. They are the only team to ever play over .700 ball in their first 60 games and then play below .500 in their next 60 games. In their last 54 games -- exactly one-third of the season -- the Yankees are 23-31. That's last-place level baseball. Tampa Bay, reeling from injuries every bit as much as the Yankees, has picked up ten games in a month. The Yanks absolutely can not afford to be swept by the Rays, heading in with German, Schmidt and Montas while a seemingly healthy Severino and Cortes rest to keep their workload down. Almost all of the positive stats that can be cited came from that once-in-a-lifetime start. There is still time to get back on track, but another month like August and this team is looking at squeezing in as a Wild Card. Or even being squeezed out of the wildcard. The unthinkable is still possible. We have a mix of good and bad players on this roster. Somehow that didn’t matter earlier this season. Now we sink to the level of the lowest common denominator. We are becoming Aaron Hicks’ team. Joey is gone. He was supposed to be the problem, the black hole sucking the life out of the lineup… Gary Sanchez was another. He’s gone. Who can pump life INTO the team? It is hard for me to believe that we have so many players who for the last week or so have done nothing at the plate. I'll give Cabrera a pass but Stanton, DJ, Torres, IKF, Donaldson, Gonzalez(why is he even on this team?) and Trevino have been clueless at the plate. And then there is Hicks but at least he is not playing much. That is virtually our entire lineup. A couple of those guys need to step up or September will be worse than August.

They have a 10 game lead on the wildcard with 31 games left I don't think they would get to a point where they would wind up with a worse record than those teams. 11-20 gets them 90 wins it would take 22-11 minimum for any of those other teams to get to 90. I think they are safe for a playoff spot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Baseball is weird. If we should hit a nine game losing streak, all the equations need to be changed. If Tampa and Toronto or Baltimore is on a nine game winning streak at the same time, the equations become scary… I’m not predicting a nine game losing streak, but they do happen.

The hope would be that a team slumping together might all wake up at the same time and have hot streaks together…

Yea I just think this team seems to play better against winning teams I dunno why that is but some of these games against lesser teams they use as rest games and whatever it's annoying. Hopefully they win this series against the Rays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
