This is the toughest time of the day to be an outfielder in Yankee Stadium. He likely lost the ball twice on that play - off the bat then running back to flag it down. The more he plays the better he will be. Hopefully they play Judge in CF until Bader is ready. Florial has been worse than Hicks, if that's possible. No he hasn't. He gets better jumps than Hicks, he takes better routes, he covers way more ground, and he has a much better arm. Remember, Hicks has been playing in Yankee Stadium for years at all times of the day and night. How many innings has Florial logged in centerfield in Yankee Stadium in his career? What did Monty say - Yankees didn't trust me; they trust me here. Joey Gallo is one of the best outfield defenders in the game, and he had his share of miscues when he first got to The Bronx. These guys are not video game avatars.

That is a good point about trust even with Gallo the one thing they trusted him with is defense which is why he had so many defensive subs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

These guys get to the majors and it’s still baseball, but with a lot more people and a third deck… I’d have loved to have just had a chance to shag flies under those circumstances. Shagging flies is like hitting balls at a golf range. The ones you do well are imprinted. The bad ones you can just slough off, because they don’t count…

The Yankees need to win games, they can't waste time with guy this awful and hope he figures it out. Just play Andujar/Judge/Cabera for another 10 days until Bader gets back.

He saved that one game but that is about it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk He made plays two starts in a row to end the game that Hicks likely doesn't make, and Florial made it look easy. He'll get better with sheer repetition. I cannot tell you how many miscues outfielders have made at this time of the year during afternoon day games in old Yankee Stadium. O'Neill has talked about it many times, and announcers used to discuss it back in the 1970s. This Stadium was set up to mimic the old one, so the environmental factors are as similar as they could be.

I thought we were discussing defense? And, Florial deserves more chances offensively and defensively than are being provided to Hicks. Had Cabrera started off 0-25, instead of having that stretch in the middle of his tenure this season, would you be saying the same thing? Florial came into this game with 31 at bats divided over two call ups this season, including this one. I see a lot of potential in his game. So, Andujar is now the flavor of the minute? Not long ago I recall many wanting him to be DFA'd.

And, yet, this is arguably one of the worst hitting eras in baseball history. Doesn't really compute, does it?

Do we trust Tailion more than Montas? Only has given up more than 3 runs once since July 16.

If every kid with upside was dismissed after a 3 for 31 slump, we wouldn’t have had many big stars. I forget the numbers, but I recall Willy Mays stumbling out of the gate with a long 0 fer, and Mickey Mantle crying and wanting to go home…

Willie Mays, May 25 to June 1, 1951:
.039 .219 .154 .373 1 for 26
At that point, Willie felt defeated and requested that he be sent back to the minor leagues. The Giants refused and kept playing him. He succeeded immediately thereafter…
