Wouldn't hurt my feelings if Britton didn't make the post-season roster. Utterly incapable of a clean inning. No way he can make the post season roster. Good chance Chapman doesn't make it either. I hardly see him these days.

Judge, now 30 has 219 career home runs. Due to injuries and COVID, he’s likely lost 50-60 more (by conservative estimate). He’d still need to hit an average of 50 per year for eleven years to get the all-time record…

They are/were both great. In fact I said on this forum a year or two ago that Judge reminded me of Maris in the way he played right field, the way he went to the ball, the way he set himself to throw, the way he instinctively made the right decisions. And they both could play CF very well. But really, Judge has physical gifts beyond what Maris had. He covers more ground and as amazing as Maris' arm was, Judge is even stronger. I would say Judge, but the gap isn't as wide as some might believe. But Roger will always have a secure place in Yankee history. And really, as much pressure as there truly was on Judge, it was far greater on Maris. Nice Pipps! No doubt about pressure. People who saw Ruth play were still very much alive and kicking. And, that was an expansion year in 1961, which upset some purists, and the game had lengthened from 154 to 162 ball games, which rankled the older crew into an asterisk. But, my understanding, was that Mantle was who was expected to challenge that record, and if you look at the numbers - Mickey had an amazing season. Better average, better OBP, better OPS+, and he led the Yankees in steals with 12, when the entire team had only 28, which included Mick's 12. Oh yeah, Mick was the better player by a wide margin. Roger was a very good player who had two or three great seasons. Mantle still ranks among the greatest handful ever to play. It ticked me off then as now how Maris' pursuit of the record was treated almost as a negative event. Not in the early going, but as he got close the writers covering him became more hostile and asked repetitive inane questions. The coverage of Judge was almost universally joyful. As it should have been.

But my recollection is that three years later the public had a much deeper understanding of how PEDs were affecting the game. Maybe I'm wrong, but Bonds' record seemed to me to be met with far less overall enthusiasm.

When your best season is also the least enjoyable.

Effross could only pitch to one batter? Did his horse get away?

Marwin playing like a gold glover at first. The guy really is a great athlete.
