Cole is jumping for joy and hoping that Devers goes to the NL too. Choi is 10-24 with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs in 30 plate appearances against Gerrit Cole in his career. Daring move by Choi. He might lose 100 points ofc his OPS without Cole to push around…

Trade Montas and put Schmidt in the rotation. Montas is worth next to nothing unless he gets off to a strong start in 2023. If he does, don’t believe the mirage and trade him to the first taker…

If he does, don’t believe the mirage and trade him to the first taker… Indeed, 28 earned runs in 39.2 innings last season for the Yankees does not instill confidence. Not sure why Cashman Magoo was so enthusiastic about a guy with a career 105 ERA+ with the severe negative splits away from Oakland Coliseum. Yankees may have been better served to go with one of the guys they traded from AAA. Cashman does have some luck, though. Nestor Cortes was released by the Baltimore Orioles, and the Yankees brought him back to the minor leagues, probably for that all important minor league depth, which usually never gets to the big leagues without multiple injuries. Not exactly a heady decision, as Cortes was then traded to Seattle from New York for the always invaluable "future considerations." What does that mean? Cashman gets a free meal at Bob's Chop House whenever he's in the Bay Area? Yankees resign Nestor to the minor leagues after Seattle lets him go, and now he's an all-star. The genius of Cashman? Or, the luck of Cashman Magoo?

Or, the luck of Cashman Magoo? I would take the Cortes situation as a little of both. The Yankees had to see something in Cortes to bring him back when he was turned loose by each team… I don’t recall the specifics of the roster at the times we relinquished his services, but Lodi g a player often has to do with roster space vs. the talent of the player. It would seem the Yanks may have preferred to keep him if they had room but didn’t/couldn’t at time? …

Or, the luck of Cashman Magoo? Thinking about those “future considerations”. In looking at Nestor’s transactions page on BR, there is no explanation of any resolution to the considerations. Perhaps the terms were “If we, Seattle, release him, you (Yankees) get nothing. On the other hand, if we keep him and by say, 2022 he goes 12-4; 2.44, we owe you something… I don’t know. It seems odd that there is no indication we got anything out of the deal…

I'm calling B.S. on this one. Why would they break the bank on a SS when they have Volpe, Peraza and Cabrera in the organization? Plus, the Yankees need left handed bats, they already have enough right handed hitters.
