[br “Hi! Uh, Lewin Diaz?” br] “Yes, sir.” “Lewin, there’s been a mistake made. We thought you were Edwin Diaz.” “I know. So did the others. Well, I guess this is good bye, huh?” “You got it.”

Rumors: This AL club is a 'serious suitor' for Reynolds LATEST FREE AGENT & TRADE RUMORS
Manny Machado rumors: 5 teams that should already have an eye on him
...4. The Yankees need have another shot at him
New York Yankees fans are already burnt out from one season of Josh Donaldson at third base. Acquired last offseason in a trade with the Minnesota Twins, he's a shell of his former self. Fortunately, the team can buy him out after the 2023 season. When they do, they should turn their attention to Machado.
Yankees fans remember feeling confident that he would end up on their roster back in 2019. It was Miguel Andujar who got the start at third base instead before Gio Urshela won the job for the bulk of the season.
Third base has been a position of some need for the Yankees. In the days after Alex Rodriguez, Chase Headley is one of the better and more consistent at the position along with Urshela.
Machado is in a different class. Yankees fans may still wonder if they made those Manny Machado rumors come true several years ago if they would have made a trip to the World Series by now.
New York will get another crack at him next winter. These aren't the George Steinbrenner-run Yankees, though. They seem a little more timid to hand out gigantic deals. In the post-Donaldson era of baseball in the Bronx, Machado would be the answer many crave.

OH OH!!! Boston be better than us with this signing (giggles):
The Boston Red Sox made a depth move by signing a former New York Yankees outfielder who provided a boost for his new rivals during the 2021 season.
While middle infield depth and starting pitching remain the priorities, Boston could use a boost in the outfield, and has identified a potential candidate to do so.
"Sources confirm the Red Sox are closing in on a minor-league deal with outfielder Greg Allen," MassLive's Chris Cotillo tweeted Wednesday.
...The 29-year-old is a career .232 hitter with 47 extra-base hits including 10 home runs, 67 RBIs and a .635 OPS in 282 games at the MLB level.
In Triple-A, Allen has hit .301 with a .845 OPS over the course of 172 career games.
While an offensive breakout is far from expected, Allen is a plus defender with base-stealing speed and experience playing for a big-market team.
The veteran journeyman also is a switch hitter.
This week, Inside the Clubhouse looks at Adam Duvall's appeal to the Yankees, the Miguel Rojas trade, Chad Pinder and more.

Dodgers Release Trevor Bauer By Steve Adams | January 12, 2023 at 1:09pm CDT
The Dodgers announced Thursday that they’ve given right-hander Trevor Bauer his unconditional release. Los Angeles designated Bauer for assignment last week and explored trade possibilities for the right-hander but was unable to find a match. He’ll now become a free agent who can sign with a new team for the league minimum. The Dodgers will remain on the hook for the rest of the $22.5MM still left on Bauer’s deal.

The Marlins and Twins have discussed trade scenarios involving Miami starter Pablo López, writes Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman reports that Minnesota outfielder Max Kepler and infielder Luis Arraez were among the names who’d come up in those discussions but adds the Twins aren’t interested in parting with Arraez.
Minnesota’s interest in López isn’t a new development. Ted Schwerzler of Twins Daily first reported in mid-December the Twins were in touch with the Fish about López. Obviously, nothing has yet come together and Heyman’s report doesn’t suggest there’s anything particularly close between the two clubs.
