Kaybli: Perfect!!! And Trade Donaldson & Torres and have IKF start at 3B, Peraza SS and Volpe at 2B
A quick note = Have you seen the Hunters on Amazon yet??? It is 2-Seasons = GREAT Series!!!
H healthy D.J. has to be starting somewhere. YES, if DJ is HEALTHY (???) have him at 3B & b-u for 1B; and Volpe at 2B with IKF roaming as b-u for 3B/SS and Cabrera in LF also can be used as b-u for 6-positions 9as he did in 2022).

Start the season at SS with Peraza and then Volpe takes over second or third when he comes up! Only a token number of SS starts for IKF when Peraza needs a breather. Kaybli: Perfect!!! And Trade Donaldson & Torres and have IKF start at 3B, Peraza SS and Volpe at 2B

I just checked out The Hunters and watched the first two episodes of Season 1. Good tip, DoMe! Lots of nostalgia for me, being that it starts in 1977. I was twelve years old, and I remember waiting in line to get a ticket to see Star Wars. In episode 2 there is a kid working at the bowling alley who was wearing a shirt that I had, except instead of brown in color, mine was red. Bought it at Sears in the Tough Skins section. Fanta orange in glass bottles with real cane sugar. Ugly green carpet, avocado appliances, yellow and red wall paper, etc. We didn't have those, fortunately. Not because we had good taste, we just didn't spend money on cosmetic upgrades to a home. Whatever it was when you built it, stayed that way - like a museum piece.

Despite hitting .429 during Spring Training and playing flawless defense, Volpe starts the season at AAA, where he goes into a 1-32 slump. Though he hits .295 the next 150 at bats, the Yankees keep him in AAA for the remainder of the season with a call up when rosters expand to 28. Peraza starts the season at shortstop but in the third game of the season tweaks a hamstring trying to nab an errant throw to second base from Gleyber Torres. Though the throw was awful, Gleyber is not assigned an error. Instead, Peraza gets charged because he was able to contort his body and the ball just touched the webbing of his glove. Peraza is placed on the IL, and IKF is given the shortstop position for the remainder of the season. Cashman is quoted as saying about IKF, "We like his moxie and our metrics tell us he's one of the top six defensive shortstops in the game." While on the IL, Peraza suffers an oblique injury in the batting cage, then tweaks an ankle, tripping on a tractor tire that Stanton uses to hit with a sledgehammer. When Peraza comes off the IL, he is assigned to AA to get back into game shape and is pulled up to AAA for a week, subbing at shortstop, second and third base. Peraza then becomes the roving infielder in a role that IKF was supposed to inhabit. During the season, Cashman makes a move, trading a AA long-relief pitcher who is lights out but does not throw over 93 mph for a career cup-of-coffee/AAAA, defense-first infielder from the Reds. Cincinnati converts the reliever to a starter and brings him up to the big club a month later and stays in the rotation for the rest of the season, with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.039 WHIP. Cashman is quoted later regarding the trade, "We traded a pitcher we liked who was blocked for a major league ready defensive player who can play all infield positions." Two weeks later, the Yankees release the infielder after he asks to be traded and no other teams make an offer. You mean… again?…

everyone is going to be in comp for SS...this means nothing. they already know who is going to be the starting SS.

If Volpe doesn't have to be on the 40 man roster, then I don't think there's much of a chance for him to make the big league team coming out of spring training, the Yankees need the roster spots. Maybe later in the season?

It will play out like this (IF the Yank's Mgt are SMART???)
Peraza at SS
DJ (if healthy???) at 3B
Torres at 2B (unless he is traded or gets injured from to much hustling = GIGGLES) -- If so, than Peraza moves to 2B Volpe at SS (with IKF as back-up to SS & 3B)
If DJ is hurt than IKF to 3B
Also, do not forget, WE have Cabrera that can play 3B, 2B, SS, etc.
THIS leaves the Elephant in the room OUT = Donaldson = Has to be traded/Cut = Need his Roster Spot = Plus he can ONLY play 3B (he is limited).
AND ALSO:
We need to trade/cut Hicks NOW. We have Cabrera, Florial and like three others we signed to Minor Leagus contracts that can/will play as well if not better than Hicks.
Might have a few bumps early on but once THEY = Cabrera, Peraza, Volpe, etc. get settled in = WATCH OUT!!! A new Dynasty.
Yankees facing a daunting situation at third base
...Utilizing Donaldson as a depth piece is more realistic since DJ enjoyed 385.2 innings at third base last season, hosting a .992 fielding percentage with seven defensive runs saved and four outs above average.
DJ is three years younger than Donaldson. Despite finishing his 2022 season on a down note, he still managed to hit .261 with a .357 OBP, 12 homers, and 46 RBIs. LeMahieu is the team’s primary leadoff man and one of their best contact hitters, making him a cornerstone when healthy.
Despite that, general manager Brian Cashman and the coaching staff continue to instill confidence in Donaldson, who seems to have lost any leverage regarding a starting position. Paying $21 million for a player to sit on the bench and act as a reserve is certainly a tough pill to swallow, but that is a consequence of making risky trades to bolster other positions.
While all signs point toward Josh riding the pine to start the year, management is speaking as though he has a starting position locked up. Nonetheless, that would suggest LeMahieu will play a different role, which I can’t imagine to be realistic given his value as an offensive piece.

someone needs to stop feeding into these metrics so much and use your eyes.

Yet another player who has been covered ad nauseum by this column, Volpe is on the cusp of his big league debut. His 1.097 OPS looks strong in the early going. In addition to a home run and two doubles, he also has three stolen bases. Volpe’s path to the starting shortstop role should be viewed as an uphill battle if only because the Yankees have given themselves a number of difficult decisions to make this spring. Volpe is plagued by the same criteria that could give the Cardinals pause regarding Walker. Additionally, Volpe has identifiable flaws as a hitter – most notably, a fly ball-oriented swing. He could find himself with a low BABIP in the Majors, especially since many pitchers have become adept at attacking this hitting profile.

It would behoove us all to remember the ST heroics of Higgy last season. Still a lot of AB occurring vs. pitchers who may never even make MLB for a day, and veteran pitchers that may be working on a new pitch or mechanics. Even then, I have to think that maybe I don’t want to be behooved. I could save money on shoes going forward, but it would be tough on the flooring of our house… 🤓

If Volpe is the SS, do you start Peraza in the minors? Playing everyday is more important than sitting on the bench.
