I think the Yankees knew after the first week of ST they were going to start either Volpe or Peraza at SS. I believe I read somewhere IKF hasn't started at SS since 3/8. Volpe is clearly the leader and will probably get the nod. What to do with Peraza? In my mind, if he ain't startin', he will be departin'. Of course, the depends if they they trade IKF. They could also trade Gleyber for pitching, move Volpe to 2nd and play Peraza at SS and DJ at 3rd. (Not Donaldson). Keep IKF and Cabrera has super utility guys. If only. I would be so excited to see all that happen… |

Other than Judge and Cole, this kid may be the most valuable player the Yankees have this season. So excited to see his career, much like I was able to see Derek Jeter's from beginning to end.  |

It's all good fodder to get news clicks, page views, etc for media and fans. Frankly there is room for Peraza and Volpe for the present and future. I am sorta surprised they are both still here, along with Torres. I figured by now one or two of the three woulda been dealt, as we heard rumblings last trade deadline and into the winter. As usual, the Yankee front office showing they haven't a clue how to properly build a roster. They don't know how to polish prospects off at MLB level, they also don't know when to trade prospects for a star or two to get over the hump in October. I hope for Volpe and Peraza's sake, things go differently.
I really don't have a big say one way or another, I'd like to see Volpe up opening day - but not gonna get in a tizzy if he isn't. Peraza is a top 100 prospect, and from reports is the better defensive SS. I'm not gonna give one ounce of care what happened in spring training, as long as both get plenty of PT throughout the year. It doesn't matter to me what the roster is on March 30th, it's an arbitrary date.

I don't have a problem with Volpe at MLB and Peraza in AAA, my worry is the organization hasn't shown the capability to support talents like this if they struggle. There is a non-zero possibility Volpe is swimming in it in April and May, the pressure grows, maybe the team isn't winning games, etc. Things can get dicey and idk if the club has proven to handle letting a kid navigate growing pains. The good news if that were the case, Peraza is more than capable. I guess we'll see. |

Last season, Oswaldo established himself. Logically one of Volpe or Peraza should go back to AAA. After a month or two another might be worked into the mix if things are going well, and there is still time to think about a third in the deep heat of summer, dependent on the need and other circumstances. This allows time for completion of trades (Gleyber?), DFA’s (Donaldson?) as the season progresses. By the end of the season it’s feasible that we could have Volpe, Peraza, and Dominguez all on the team… |

Bravo to Volpe!!! GREAT!!! However I would have kept Peraza at SS and Volpe at 2B and IKF/Donaldson at 3B.
Torres traded or on bench and Donalson traded or CUT!!!
Nevertheless great news about Volpe.
