The numbers at major league camp are getting smaller. I’m glad. It’s time to get the regulars some reps and get longer looks at impending prospects…

Yankees may have found their long-term first baseman
The Yankees are excited about Andres Chaparro:
Chaparro has big league power, playing in 64 games with Double-A Somerset last year and enjoying 271 plate appearances. He hit .289 with a .369 OBP, 19 homers and 52 RBI. If you didn’t hear it the first time, Chaparro hit 19 homers over 64 games, and if you extrapolate that over a 162-game season, that is nearly 50 homers, 47.5 to be exact.
At 23 years old, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound infielder has played a bit of third base and first base, and while he doesn’t feature a lefty bat, which the Yankees seemingly prefer at the position, he has more than enough power to make up for any deficiencies.
Yankees are staring down the barrel of a big left-field problem
...Hicks is coming off two consecutive down seasons, hitting .216 with a .330 OBP, eight homers, and 40 RBIs last season across 130 games. This was the first time Hicks had played over 60 games since 2018, so it is safe to assume the 33-year-old has left his best days behind him.
...The best option for the Yankees might end up being Cabrera, who is hitting .267 with a .33 OBP this spring, including eight hits, two homers, and eight RBIs across 30 at-bats. They have been moving Oswaldo around to different positions, testing his utility value in case they need him, but the 24-year-old has done enough to showcase his defensive talents in the outfield.
I would not be surprised if he ended up starting in left field, despite moving around daily. If only Jasson Dominguez were a bit closer to his MLB debut, the Yankees would have a star-studded solution. Still, their top outfield prospect is expected to start the 2023 season in Double-A. He could be elevated to Triple-A Scranton quickly, making him a potential option down the stretch once the service time accumulation date passes in August.

He has pretty good instincts in the field, but he wasn’t looking like the worlds greatest CF. As were all Yankee batters to this point in spring, he wasn’t facing much MLB pitching, so it’s hard to get excited about the hitting. He probably legitimately does need a bit more experience to break in at his best. I’d rather see him in LF than Hicks right now, but my line isn’t baseball development. I’m just a fan that wants to enjoy my team to the maximum…

If the Yankees owed Hicks 3 million rather than 30 million, it would be a very interesting scenario, just as if the Yankees owed Donaldson 2.5 million rather than 25 million. To me, Dominguez is closer to the next Melky Cabrera (not a bad thing) with power (no need for dabbling in PEDs) than Mickey Mantle. People may not recall, but Melky was first called up at 20 years old to play centerfield, then for good at age 21. Melky had a better arm but Dominguez is likely a bit faster. Dominguez has power from both sides of the plate and a shorter, quicker swing than Hicks. He's obviously (to me) a better player all around and a bigger threat offensively right now than Hicks, Ortega, et al. I am of the opinion that the best ball players should make the roster, especially if they are going to get playing time, which Dominguez would. I do not buy that Dominguez' performance is due to AA pitchers in Spring Training. If that were the case, then one would expect Hicks, Donaldson and others would be raking, too. If it is the case, then it is obvious that Dominguez should graduate to a different level of competition. Either way, Dominguez is misplaced in going back to AA. One Yankee fan's opinion.

I go back and forth on Dominquez because he's so young and has had so few AB's above A ball. That minor league season lost to COVID didn't help guys like him. I can see the Yankees wanting him to get more AB's at either Double A or Triple AAA (my preference). Either way, he's on the radar and should be fast tracked to the Bronx.

Grab a Hard Drink, relax and be sitted before you read this = It is a Do Me/Tequila Whopper = But it makes sense to us!!! What Do Me would do for the 2023 season (as of today): --Sadly, they kept Boone & Cash which I would not have done. But the past is just that, the past (it is history and no one can change history) = No whining over spilled milk/retreads. DO ME’S/TEQUILA'S 2023:NOTE: This Line-up of ours, would not get us to the WS in 2023. However, with the experience, coaching, playing time, etc. etc. etc. that these players will get in 2023 will pay-off in 2024. WE must play our best players TODAY. And our Best Players are NOT = Donaldson, Hicks, Torres, etc. And sadly, Stanton doesn’t fit our Best Player Mode either, but for NOW, we are stuck with him. --By opening day Hicks, Donaldson both gone (traded or cut = No Ifs or Butts). And Torres traded (Please note that if I could get a decent trade for Torres before the season begins, I would, faster than a blink of an eye = did you all see his first and third at bat on Saturday in the WBC??? Just swinging at balls way outside the plate like Sanchez did)). RF: Judge with Stanton, Cabrera or Florial as b-u. CF: Bader (if healthy??? Big IF). If injured again (like another Ellsbury type) I go with Dominguez in CF with Florial as b-u. Or the opposite. Or equal time (split time). Judge could also serve as b-u. LF: Cabrera with Dominguez, Florial and Stanton as b-u. DH: Stanton sad to say; others will get AB’s at DH also. Judge would be DH on his semi-rest days. 1B: Rizzo with DJ and Cabrera as b-u. Rizzo MOST LIKELY will get injured again (think of his back…) so if using DJ & Cabrera elsewhere then will call up The Chap (Chaparro). 2B: Volpe with DJ, Peraza, as b-u. Or Peraza starts at 2B SS: Peraza with Volpe, Cabrera and IKF as b-u. Or Volpe starts at SS 3B: DJ with IKF as b-u (IKF has won a Gold Glove at 3B) and Cabrera as b-u. C: Trevino with Higashioka as b-u. If one gets injured call another C from Farm; plus we have IKF (???). So, it looks like such: 1B Rizzo L 2B Volpe R SS Peraza R 3B DJ R RF Judge R CF Bader R (if not injured???) LF Cabrera SH DH Stanton R C Trevino R BENCH: --IKF R --Dominguez SH (If Bader Healthy and playing really well, then Dominguez back to farm and maybe call up Chap ???). Or move Dominguez to LF and rotate Cabrera thru-out other positions??? --Florial L (Will get a chance & ample AB’s – If not hitting will be cut; sadly). --Higashioka R Would be rotating my bench quite often into line-ups and also using them as PH, PR, etc. For the most part, this team has Youth, Speed, Great Attitudes, Excitement, High Energy Levels, etc. There is also power in the line-up. Between my line-up and bench I will have at least 6-players that can SB at a high %. Putting OUR Youth in the above line-up = We would do just as well, if NOT BETTER, than having Donaldson, Hicks, etc. in the line-up. Volpe reminds me when we called up Jeter and Dominguez reminds me when we called up Judge. The beginning of a new Dynasty???!!! I bet that for sure this year, that Bader, Rizzo, Stanton will at some point be injured…and out for a while. No problems, with my line-up got it covered. The Martian” played up to his otherworldly nickname (from an article).
In 11 Grapefruit League games, Dominguez hit .455 (10-for-22) with four home runs, a double, nine RBIs, a steal and as many walks (three) as strikeouts.
A player who turned 20 last month never had a chance to make the Yankees out of camp, but Dominguez has put himself firmly on their radar.
After an up-and-down first minor league season in 2021, Dominguez took off in 2022 and kept the momentum going in spring training.
Boone pinpointed the way Dominguez conducted his spring at-bats — with the ability to lay off balls, be selective and still make hard contact — as a standout skill (DO ME: Something Donaldson, Hicks, Stanton, Torres could learn from!!!).
Now get another hard drink as you digest the above = Still makes sense to us. Plus this team would be much cheaper.

You want CRAZY then here is CRAZY = Donaldson goes The Inger at 3B!!! lol, I think Inger was an OFer. We could stick him in LF. I think inger’s fate is never again to involve tracking a fly ball, or making a throw further than maybe 120 ft… if he gets a running start, grunts and has a perfect release… As far as third goes… these kids hitting the ball today would probably kill me. Young inger is now a much more “mature” inger…
