Opening day, 100 years ago. I would kill for one of those cardigans. Although they look more suited to January than April. That's obviously the Bambino leading the march, and I'm pretty sure that's none other than Wally Pipp behind him. His headache was still two years in the future. I also think, with less certainty, that behind Pipp is Babe's barnstorming pal and fellow troublemaker Bob Meusel. The Yanks won that game 4-1 in front of over 74,000 in the first game ever played at Yankee Stadium. Babe of course hit the first home run. The game started at 3:30 and lasted 2:05. Without a pitch clock! |
