That was a frustrating game with some enjoyable highlights and a satisfying conclusion. It is so exiting to see Cabrera with a double, Pereza with single and a walk, Volpe with a home run, and then the veterans Rizzo and LeMahieu bringing it home.
I agree with what Paul O'Neill said about the importance of having rookies and veterans. It's a much more balanced and emotional dugout, because anything the rookies do to contribute, the vets become alive. Also, there is no doubt in my mind that Pereza can play third base. He's got a gun for an arm. Pereza actually has a prettier swing than Volpe, but Volpe just has something special about him - intangible gift of a gamer. He's going to do something to help you win - defense, base running, base hit - he's into the game at all times, in a manner that Sandwich and Torres just aren't at times.

I believe Peraza is a natural fielder that could play any position on the diamond, probably even pitcher and catcher. The bat, the swing, his eye and his legs scream out to be playing every day in MLB. You can add the self-aggrandizing Donaldson to your list of players that offer us nothing. He fields well, but he doesn’t hit note provide proper guidance to young players. It’s time to turn over more of the roster than most GMs would like to do at once. We have enough veterans of quality to less these young men to greatness. It’s time to rid ourselves of these reclamation projects and move on to players that clearly have more to offer.
