Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ‘39, ‘61, ‘76… The answer was only like maybe 5 minutes after the question… I remember Munson's 1976 season, and Joe Morgan was at his peak. I could not fathom how the Reds could sweep the Yankees that season. Munson had an unbelievable post-season and World Series, unfortunately, Johnny Bench did the same, plus he had more help. Reggie would put them over the hump the next two seasons against the Dodgers, who I always hated so much more than the Reds for some reason. |

It's not often that both managers get booted. If I remember correctly from a Podcast, Boone is already 63rd on the all time list (not counting today), and that is with him being something like 186th in games, so he's moving up fast. When I think about it though, the umps seem much more sensitive today that in the 1970s. A lot of those guys were veterans, tough, and didn't take everything so seriously. There were only a few words that could garner an automatic boot. |

Volpe hasn't been the contact guy we need. Hopefully, he can cut down on the strikeouts and command the strike zone better as his rookie season progresses.
