I’m reminded of the time my drive was into the trees on the 18th hole, and I failed to escape cleanly. The third shot was from 140 yards and decided to take a half-swing with a 4 iron with the ball back in my stance to avoid hitting a limb again. The ball landed short of the green by maybe 40 years then slowed down and crept slowly onto the green and dropping into the cup for an explicable birdie. I was still a struggling golfer at that point. I had noticed that my friend was always straight and some guys called him lucky because he got good bounces near the greens. They didn’t realize that those bounces were the result of missing on the right side of mounds and bunkers… My father-in-law hit a nine iron on a short par three that hooked high over the fence and protective netting, bounced into traffic at a three-way stop, careened off the side of the concrete island that separated the three lanes of traffic under the hanging stop light, bounded back in bounds onto the green and landed four inches from the hole. I hit to the middle of the green, the ball hit a branch that had fallen onto the green, the ball ricocheted at a ninety degree angle into the sand trap. Amazing tale! And vs. the father-in-law no less… 😂

Volpe now 6 for his last 56...whoa His at bats devolve lately once he gets to two strikes. He really is lost right now and could use a couple days off. Waldo just had his best swing in a month last night. His lower half finally in sync with his swing and hips not flying open too soon. Volpe needs a similar reset.

And vs. the father-in-law no less… 😂 My father-in-law and I have played hundreds of rounds of golf together. We started before I was married to Sarah, playing every Saturday and Sunday morning for about three years. There are fifty of those types of stories. Harlan was always more interested in finding golf balls to add to his collection and how far he could hit off the tee. His swing was something between slow pitch softball and chopping firewood. When he didn't top the ball or hook it wildly, some of his drives were quite Ruthian, even at 50 years old. Once when we were playing on the old, original LSU golf course, Harlan pulled his drive high into a tree on the left side of the fairway. The ball never came out, but a bird fell straight down dead. I yelled, "You got a birdie!" Lots of ridiculous stuff happened playing with Sarah's dad.

I still can't believe they gave Muncy an extra base on this.

Volpe now 6 for his last 56...whoa The result of being too pull happy and likely the philosophy of the Yankees to "hit strikes hard." He had a better approach when he was first called up, patient and working walks to use his speed on the bases and spraying the ball to all fields. The Yankees have development issues affected by swing plane philosophies.
