"one of the best starters left on the trade market"
Umm... Montas has a 5 ERA and FIP suggests that the underlying metrics don't signal a turn around. He missed all of last year injured and sucked down the stretch the prior year for us. Dire situation on the trade market if he's one of the best left lol

Flaherty is pretty damn good but he's been dealing with health issues. It'd be classic Yankees to bring him in and he goes on the IL. He's on my Fantasy Team and I was annoyed he got scratched for tonight, but if it means he's coming to the Bronx I'll let it slide. Still would rather have Skubal though. Who wouldn't? The package for a Skubal deal would be astronomical, though. No way the O's let the Yanks get him, they have more/better prsopects to deal.

From MLB Trade Rumors about an hour and a half ago: Yankees Have Shown Interest In Yandy DiazAn interesting idea for this season, good contact hitter who's drawn walks in seasons past. Having a down year and might be declining and they'd have to move someone to play him, and he'd cost a good prospect or two (the Rays already know who to ask for in the Yankees system and I'm not sure the Yanks know who not to give themA). The contract is for this year, his age 33 season, and an a team option for his age 34 season, so there's some downside risk, but he's not expensive, $10 million next year, and the option in 2026 is just $12 million.

Diaz makes sense. We could use another bat in the middle of the order to just write in everyday. Wells has been awesome but still feels a bit unsettling to rely on him to be the cleanup hitter.
LF Verdugo (L) RF Soto (L) CF Judge (R) 1B Diaz (R) C Wells (L) DH Stanton (R) 3B Chisholm (L) 2B Torres (R) SS Volpe (R)
Bench gets crowded. You have to keep a backup catcher obviously. DJ’s contract guarantees him a spot. Someone has to be the backup SS so Cabrera probably has the inside track there unless they’re ok using Chisholm in that role. And then I imagine they’d want to keep Grisham for late inning defensive replacement in the OF.
That leaves out Rice, Rizzo and Dominguez. The latter two are still injured. Rice probably gets sent back down to AAA which kind of stinks because he’s been decent. Too many bench options usually sorts itself out though.

Doesn't anyone find this to be a weird thing for him to say?

Doesn't anyone find this to be a weird thing for him to say? He’s a more outspoken leader who has been granted some power (at least imaginary) in the acquisitions and direction of the team. Unlike Jeter, he doesn’t always give canned responses. He knows there needs to be improvement, but leaves a bit of mystery as he asks management to fix… something… But what? Is he asking to fix the pitching? For an established first baseman? Only he knows…

I'd love to add another bat, but I don't think that's the real pressing need at this point. We NEED another bullpen arm or two, particularly a closer. Another starter would be ideal, too. The offense appears to be waking from their 6+ week slumber, the pitching still got torched in three straight games last Weds-Sat. Help is very much needed because we are not going to continue scoring at the level we have since Friday.

I see the Yankees are really making a push for Jack Flaherty and I think he would be really good if healthy but just not the answer. We NEED BULLPEN ARMS. There is not one guy out there I really trust right now. Getting Hamilton back would help but I think we all agree that Holmes is not a closer. The amazing thing is that despite being one of the worst team in baseball for 6 or so weeks, the Yankees are only 2-3 games off the best record in the game and they have a lot of BAD losses like Friday night at Fenway. If they could get a lock down closer and get Hamilton back and use Tommy K and Holmes in the 7th and 8th along with Weaver I like their chances now that the offense seems to be waking up and Gil and Rodon are coming back to form. We need Cole to be himself or close to it though.

IDK why I was thinking of Diaz as a middle of the order bat before but he's a leadoff guy. He really makes perfect sense here. Especially if Dominguez comes back and takes Verdugo's spot in LF.
1B Diaz (R) RF Soto (L) CF Judge (R) C Wells (L) DH Stanton (R) 3B Chisholm (L) 2B Torres (R) LF Dominguez (S) or Verdugo (L) SS Volpe (R)

Doesn't anyone find this to be a weird thing for him to say? I do. As team captain maybe he should be selling the idea that the guys on the team can pull together and win a WS. He seems to be saying something different.
