Okay now they're saying it'll be clear at 10pm but heavy rain at midnight so this one probably gets rained out.

Manny Machado has an OPS of .678. Anthony Volpe not looking too bad comparatively at .665.

That game was insane with leads being blown late by both teams. The Reds have something going on right, I bet they wish they still had Castillo right now. I watched it too Chi. Great game. The Reds are an exciting team right now. Haven't been able to say that in over thirty years. Sanchez actually did a great job blocking the plate in the 11th inning to keep De La Cruz from scoring the winning run, I was stunned. The joy didn't last long for the Padres since the Reds still walked it off later in the inning.

I had a feeling Sevy would be inspired by German's performance. "Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain, telling me what a fool I've been..

Dan Fogleberg (sp?) did a slowed down version as well, but it was very electric piano heavy which I didn't like. Still partial to the original by the Cascades (I think).

Yep, The Cascades. Late 62-early 63. One of the handful of rock/pop songs to use a celesta for the keyboard. A few others where it's prominent would be "Everyday" by Buddy Holly, "Cherish" by The Association, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell and "She's A Rainbow" by The Rolling Stones. I was unfamiliar with Dan Fogelberg's version, although it's right in his soft rock wheelhouse and I see it actually went to number three on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (i.e. Soft Rock) charts in 1990.

My friend Barry and I sang that song in a school talent show when we were in the 6th grade. We only knew The Cascades version. www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=rhythm+of+the+rain+the+cascades&mid=1D6A368D687723A18ABC1D6A368D687723A18ABC

Because I can never just shut up -- that song was produced by another guy named Barry -- Barry DeVorzon, the founder of Valiant Records, on which it was recorded. Later in 63, with his own group Barry and the Tamerlanes, he had a hit with "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight." A different song than the one recorded by Boyce and Hart in 1968. DeVorzon wrote soft-rock 70s hits "Nadia's Theme" and "Bless The Beasts And The Children." In a more incongruous move, he co-wrote with Joe Walsh the Eagles' "In The City,"one of my favorites from them. John Gummoe wrote and sang lead on ROTR. He said he was on guard duty on his ship when a thunderstorm inspired the song for him. That makes two famous songs I know of inspired by guard duty in the military. The other is "In The Still Of The Night" by The Five Satins. BTW a lot of The Wrecking Crew musicians played on ROTR, including Glen Campbell, bassist Carole Kaye and drummer Hal Blaine. They recorded on about 80 percent of The Beach Boys, Byrds, Gary Lewis you name it records in the 60s.

Boyce and Hart had another big hit "Alice Long" that I'll bet you remember. In addition of course to all those Monkees songs that they wrote. Kaybli I have despoiled the game thread, so if you want to move this portion to the music thread, I certainly understand.
