They won 99 games last season with bad left fielders, IKF playing every day, and essentially the same catchers. The difference is last season they cut down on base running mistakes, outs at home, and played better baseball than they did the year before or this season. All of the old fundamental mistakes are coming back to haunt them. Rizzo, Stanton, LeMahieu are brand names who have lost their ability to hit the longer they have been with the Yankees and their offensive philosophies. I'm seeing bad baseball by two guys who were always fundamentally sound with LSU/Colorado and the Cubs. The Yankees do not pay attention to the little things, nor do they coach them in the minor leagues, which is why you have numbskulls like Gleyber and Sanchez with more talent than sense. There is no way that the guys on the Red Sox or Tampa Bay are that much more talented than the team the Yankees are fielded, despite their injuries. But, there is a difference in the way they play and the type of mistakes they make routinely. I'll give Rizzo a pass, because he did have an OPS in the 1.xx before the Tatis thing and we know he is a player to make adjustments, but yea I don't buy either these other teams are this much more talented than the Yankees. Just look at the 18-9 stretch before the Judge injury they literally tore apart Toronto and Seattle like they were AAA teams in that run. Also lets not forget the defense was so good last year the defense won the team platinum gold glove and Trevino as well got one. Very true. Rizzo was looking like an MVP candidate to begin the season. And, the defense was better last season, even with Judge in centerfield for much of the season.

I really like Yoshida. Did the Yankees even make an offer to him?

I did what was once unthinkable, i switched from this game to the Cubs game. I just can't watch this roster anymore. Call up some of the guys from Scranton and I'll get interested again. Cubs are another team that were standing wise where the Yankees/Mariners were 3 weeks ago. Give them a lot of credit for making changes and now both teams are in or near a playoff spot and the Yankees are not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk They got lucky with Bellinger but they have some good, young players from their system that are producing like Hoerner and Morel and just as importantly they cut bait with older players that weren't producing, like Mancini and Hosmer. Winning has become more important.

Another catcher's interference. Do we lead the league in them? Allen pulls away from a ball in the sun, which leads to a double. Another run scores from a self-inflicted mistake.

Abreu with a walk that loads the bases. Two outs.

I really like Yoshida. Did the Yankees even make an offer to him? Doubt it. Sabermetrics says he's no good, despite a .300 average. In fact, that last run he scored didn't count because he didn't get on by walk and his hit had an exit velocity under 95 mph. At least according to Yankee anaytics. So it's still 6-1.

Abreu make three solid pitches to Verdugo to end the inning. If not for the catcher's interference, he did his job for two innings.

Interesting premise. The Yankees have all MLB players ranked by the "important numbers" like exit velocity and barrels and pitch velocity and spin. Hits and runs and outs to the Yankees' braintrust are results, not statistics.

I really like Yoshida. Did the Yankees even make an offer to him? Cashman was praying that Hicks would turn it around or that Cabrera could handle the position.
