Huge votes of confidence for Austin Wells and the cerebral part of the game, getting pitchers to feel comfortable and confident, as well as designing the right pitches for the right batters at the right times. I usually have problems with pitch selection at specific times, like Kahnle throwing too many change ups without showing a single fastball, or Sevy not throwing inside and continuing to try to get batters to chase a slider away, or Cole continuing to show a fastball low and away, without ever coming inside and up. Surprisingly, and maybe it was the bad feed or the fact that I was watching LSU get pasted in the second half, but I have yet to see a glaring issue with pitch selection with Wells behind the plate. I don't know about the rest of you, and it is a small sample size, but Austin Wells looks like a starting catcher to me thus far. I didn't see anything negative about Well's catching all weekend. No constant shaking off of his pitch calls, no pitches in the dirt getting past him and he threw out a base runner last night. So far, so good.

Likely best platooned with Higgy for now. He can’t catch every day anyway…

Nice stache for a man so young, though he could trim it up a bit. Maybe he does every morning and by game time it’s grown back. Hairy little fart… 😁

What a long anc strange day it’s been without a game on. I made it about 1/3 of the way through a repair I’m doing to the back porch and under the porch. It was tedious, partly because the last owners or someone before them used any old screw, nut, or bolt they have laying around. Remove first screw with a Phillips head driver, the next one is a six point, then a larger Phillips followed by… WHAT? He used a nut and bolt on that one. An exceedingly rusty nut and bolt that I had to soak with penetrating oil for two hours. Tomorrow is the biggest part of the job, but now that I’ve gained access I can move quicker. I hope to get done. A little concrete to mix and pour. Some shoveling. A broken brace that I hood I can fix with Liquid Weld…
Then comes Rizzo’s favorite part, spread a big of lava rock (gravel to him). Always had been. Always will be… 🍿…
