This has the potential to be another good game, if we can scratch out some runs against Cristian Javier, who at 9-2 nevertheless possesses an ERA of 4.66. This means taking advantage of free passes from Houston and driving in RISP. The Falafel King is coming off a start of 4 shutout innings, as the Yankees appear to be transitioning him to a full-time starting pitcher for the remainder of this season and next into a rotation of Cole, Rodon, Schmidt, and hopefully a healthy and more durable Nestor Cortes and possibly one of either Randy Vasquez or Jhony Brito. There is always a chance of a stand out performance from one of the young arms invited to Spring Training as well. That is, if the Yankees have begun to stop worrying about minor league depth as a matter of course and simply choose the best team at the major league level, no matter age or fear of starting free agency clocks.
The Donut King began as a starter just like Clarke Schmidt, and like Schmidt struggled to find consistency and length, rotating to the bullpen. For Schmidt, the problem was getting past the fourth and then fifth inning, which he seems to have overcome. If my recollection serves, The Pasta King's issue as a starter was usually the first inning, as he mentally contended with worrying about length and not committing to the first three batters he faced, putting the team in the hole before eventually settling down.
No doubt The Shawarma King has the repertoire to be a starting pitcher, as I always thought his stuff was better than Clarke Schmidt's. This transition was delayed by the value established by The Egg Roll King's lock down performance in the bullpen, at a time when we needed big outs in high leverage middle inning situations and usually multiple innings. Ian Hamilton has evidently stepped into that role, and Loaisiga is back and healthy again. Here's to The Chicken Wing King!
