13 times in a season is insane. I wonder how many of those were caught looking at strike threes that should have been called balls?

Welcome to the board, Munson.
So who had the better season. DiMaggio for the hitting streak or Williams for hitting over .400?

I have often wondered how the players of yesteryear would fare today when everyone is throwing 90+. My take is that the stars of yesterday would still be stars, but might not shine quite as brightly. The players of moderate talent would battle for positions, some settling for back up or utility roles. The scrubs would be the AAAA types or never make it to MLB…

During the great Maris-Mantle HR chase for Babe Ruth HR chase in 1961. Roger Maris was never intentionally walked by AL Pitchers.

Joe DiMaggio struck out 13 times in 1941. Crazy. Guys today do that in a weekend series. World Series 2024✌️ The 1931 Yankees would sign former Indians INF Joe Sewell as a free agent. He had played for the Tribe for 10 seasons, striking out only 99 times with more than 5,600 at bats. Sewell would play for the Bombers for 3 seasons, hitting .282, while striking out only 15 times. He went into the Hall of Fame with a total of 114, the least of any HOF Member.

They had Berra, Mantle, Maris and Skowron at times in the middle of the 1961 Yankees starting lineup. If Yogi wasn't catching then Howard would hit after Skowron. The 1-2-3 hitters were usually Richardson, Kubek and Lopez. Clete Boyer usually hit 8th. Clipper

Jeter was pictured giving Berra bear hugs and planting a World Series trophy on top of Berra's head. Yogi? One day after Jeter swung and missed on a high, full-count pitch, Berra asked him, "What the hell are you doing swinging at that? You looked terrible." Jeter reminded Berra that he used to swing at pitches out of the strike zone all the time. "But I hit them," Yogi shot back. "You don't."
