The Dodgers just gave two players a combined total of 1 Billion dollars! We just gave up King, our top pitching prospect and a few more prospects for a Rental. Anyone who thinks that Soto, seeing that money tossed around like chicken feed, is going to sign an extension with the Yankees is dreaming! He has Dodgers written all over him! I hope we stay off the garbage heap like we have been doing the past few years to save money and just let the "kids" play. Next year should be a rebuild year. We haven't won anything since 2009! Its time for a complete rebuild bottom up! From what I read, we had the second highest salary to go 500!

We can't just waste multiple years of their best years rebuilding. A lot went wrong last year. I think if some players rebound like Rizzo and Rodon, with Soto and some yet to be acquired pitching, we can field a contending team.

There's no way to know right now if Soto is a 1 year rental.

I thought the Yankees overpaid for Soto but I don't think the resources of the Dodgers are unlimited. Soto is going to get a huge deal. I expect that Hal and Cashman understood that when they made the deal. I don't know if that will leave much money for Torres, Verdugo or anyone else. Some of that will depend on the success of the 2024 team.

In one game he couldn't get 1 out in the first Inning! We just gave away 7 young Pitchers!

I don't think the Yankees made the Soto trade just to watch him walk after one year. I expect him to have a big year and then the Yankees to make every effort to resign him.

So let me ask the question: What does Soto have to do in 2024 to make this trade a success ?

I agree = Soto is a 1-year rental = We should have waited until he was a FA = That way it would have cost us our Prospects. AND YES, we need to rebuild.

So let me ask the question: What does Soto have to do in 2024 to make this trade a success ? re-sign, lol. Him and Judge both having their usual type seasons and the Yankees making the playoffs. I would call that a success.

Contending & rebuilding are not mutually exclusive. Yanks can & will do both, with a good mix of vets and youngsters...Judge, Rizzo, DJ, Gleyber(27), Soto(25), Wells (24), Volpe(22), and Dominguez(21). Verdugo will be gone after ’24, if not sooner, which will open a slot for Jones, if he lives up to the dreaded “potential”.

Let's wait until the off-season builds a roster for the 2024 season to decide to throw in the towel. This team offensively is already better than last season and not singularly from the signing of Juan Soto, who is exactly the type of hitter this team needed: left-handed power with a high OBP combined with a big time performer. This is the middle of the order hitter this team has lacked since the gradual erosion of Giancarlo Stanton.
Does anyone believe that Anthony Volpe will not improve from his rookie season, essentially being brought up after only a partial season at AAA? Rizzo was on his way to another All-Star appearance prior to the collision with Tatis-Steroids, Jr. Austin Wells has proven to be extremely quiet and capable behind the plate with a quicker pop and release than most fans and pundits expected, while hitting .344/.364/.813/1.176 in his last 32 of 70 career MLB at bats. Just the presence of Wells, Rizzo, Soto, and Verdugo balances the lineup in a way the Yankees have not had in quite some time, as they have been absolutely stifled by right-handed pitching in recent years.
Admittedly, the Yankees have depleted their starting depth in their number 3, 4, 5, and 6 innings leaders: German (108.2), King (104.2), Brito (90.1), and Severino (89.1). As much as I liked Randy Vasquez, he only contributed 37.2. innings. Along with Cole (209) and Schmidt (159), both Rodon (64.1) and Nestor (63.1) should exceed their totals from last season. And, I expect the Yankees to secure at least one and possibly two more starters from the remaining free agents available. Severino will be easily replaced, as well as the alcohol-riddled mind of Domingo German. Schmidt will only be more confident after surviving and often excelling in his first full season as a starting pitcher at the MLB level.
Optimistically, if Judge was playing centerfield at Chavez Ravine, he would not have lost 200+ at bats, which would have certainly assisted the Yankees past the 82 wins they logged last season. This is already a better hitting lineup potentially than last season and the one that won 99 games in 2022. No Aaron Hicks, no more Calhoun, Bauers, Cordero, etc. And, someone like Oswaldo Cabrera will no longer be depended upon to become more of an offensive force than he has proven. A few pitching moves, and this team will be able to compete with anyone in the AL East, which was the toughest division in baseball top to bottom.

So let me ask the question: What does Soto have to do in 2024 to make this trade a success ? Have a typical Soto season and then re-sign with the Yankees.

The pitching market has been reset this season. It’s yet to see what the market for a big-time bat will be next winter. That’s thinking too far ahead right now. Let’s score some runs and win some games this year…

Andy Pettitte is the only free agent of their own that I can think of that the Yankees wanted to keep but didn't. Plus, I've heard Soto is an east cost guy with family in NYC, he will want to stay.
