Florial was out of options so to get a bullpen option for him is a decent trade.

I wonder if that means that the Yankees aren't going to re-sign Middleton.

I wonder if that means that the Yankees aren't going to re-sign Middleton. I haven't heard anything on Middleton, he was solid in his brief time in Pinstripes. Good luck to Florial in Cleveland, I hope he gets a shot in the majors.

Now maybe we'll get to see what he's got.

And frankly they aka Cashman treated him like dirt. Shameful.

Florial situation always seemed so odd to me. They had a need for a player with his profile and ample opportunities over the years, yet he never got a shake. I don't get not giving him a chance, but over time it just became clear to me that the scouting department/front office had no belief in him at all. For whatever reason, they just don't seem to think he's got any MLB chops at all.

You all know I was and still am a Florial BELIEVER!!! Sad to see him go but with Cleveland hopefully he will get quality playing time and surprise us with some decent results. If it was me I would have kept him.

Good trade for both sides. Yanks get a bullpen guy for someone that wasn't going to play. I don't know if Florial will ever be a major league player, but he was treated like crap and needed to go somewhere else. I hope he does well.

He was up and down so many times, we called him the yo yo man! I had high hopes for him, but every time they brought him UP, he couldn't hit himself out of a paper bag and DOWN he went! No sense

There is the Yankees announcement of the trade. As, far as of all of the complaints about his "treatment" by the team. He couldn't hit in the MLB, his strikeout percentage was too high. The Yankees had enough MLB players striking out as it was.
The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Cody Morris from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for OF Estevan Florial. Morris, 27, had posted a 6.75 ERA (8.0 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 6 BB, 9K, 3 HRs) in 6 relief appearances with the Guardians in 2023. He also made 21 combined appearances (4 starts) with AA Akron and AAA Columbus, going 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA (39.0 IP, 22 H, 15R/14 ER, 27 BB, 45 K, 5 HRs). Over two Major League seasons with Cleveland (2022-23), the right-handed pitcher has gone 1-2 with a 3.41 ERA (31.2IP, 31H, 14R/12ER, 18BB, 32K, 6HR) in 13 career appearances (five starts). The Columbia, Md., native was drafted by Cleveland in the seventh round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of South Carolina. He was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 32nd round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign. Florial, 26, had hit .230 (14-for-61) with 5 R, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 8 RBIs, 7 BB and 3 SB in 19 games with the 2023 Yankees. He had spent the majority of the season with AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting .284 (116-for-409) with 83 R, 23 doubles, 4 triples, 28 HRs, 79 RBIs, 66 BB and 25 SB in 101 games. Over parts of 4 MLB seasons with the 2020-2023 Yankees, the left-handed batter has hit .209 (24-for-115) with 12 R, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 11 RBIs, 15 BB and 6 SB in 48 career games. The Barahona, D.R., native was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on March 19, 2015.

Very few minor league players get a full shot at a major league job. There just are not enough at bats. Many of us wanted Florial to get a shot at the center field job but with Grisham on the roster a trade made sense.

As I said last season...In my opinion, the way Florial was hitting at Triple A I thought he deserved to get promoted. It's not like starting Florial in LF would have been taking Dave Winfield out of the Yankees lineup.
