cashman's press update

apparently had a presser driving in his car yesterday. some quotes. as usual he doesn't give away much. draw your own conclusions ...

“I think our team overall is going to be a constant evolution. We have a very strong team in my opinion, but we always look to improve upon it where we can and when we can. I think we have a good rotation if everything goes right, which is something you don’t want to count on and lay back counting on. We will constantly continue to look and tinker if possible, but we do like what we have at the same time.”

“I think we’ve jump-started a lot of areas, especially the offense, which was a difficult run for us last year. I think we’re improved, but it doesn’t matter what I think. It matters how it’s going to play. But we’re excited about the possibilities. The players that were here are very hungry, had a bad taste in their mouth from last year’s experience, and nobody wants to have that experience again.”

“I think he (Schmidt) pitched his tail off. I think he’s earned that opportunity. We’ll see how everything goes out. You’re always hoping that no one gets hurt, and that’s why you’ve got the young guys going and pushing and that’s why you’ve got the non-roster invites. I was really proud of the progress Clarke Schmidt took last year in his evolution.”

“I think we have internal candidates (for utility), but I wouldn’t rule out opportunities that may exist via free agency or trade, either. Just going to stay open-minded to what the price points are out there relative to what we have here.”

“That picture obviously showed a lot.” “The picture that you saw represents the effort he’s got behind it. Not that he hasn’t provided effort in the past.”

“The feedback I’m getting is really good, and his arm action is good. He looks like he obviously worked his tail off. Very optimistic that Rodón can return to form (and) be the pitcher that we know he’s capable of being.”

“I can tell you he feels great. The doctors have told us he’s 100 percent clear, that the type of concussion he had, once he’s past it, will not return. I can’t speak to that. I’m not an expert. But there’s no looking back, (just) moving forward. We’re certainly hopeful that’s the case, we’re optimistic that’s the case, and if you didn’t bring it up, I wasn’t even thinking about it anymore.”
